I have never seen this online so maybe an opinion please? The motor has been lifted and plates welded under main frame tube including coil area. Clearance issues. As everybody knows, the coil has a big steel thingy around the top and what not. I would like to trim some of that away. I don't see any problem with doing that but you never know. Thoughts?

I think the 'big steel thingy' you refer to is the laminated core of the coil and is part of what makes it work. I can well imagine trimming it will have an effect on its performance, particularly if the laminations end up damaged.

If you're planning to trim it only slightly, 1 or 2mm only at a corner and the laminations remain as laminations then I'd guess that would be OK

No, I know the part you mean. I don't need to trim that. The "big steel thingy" seems like an overbuilt mounting bracket, nothing electronic.

Trim away, no harm will be caused (unless you cut one of your fingers off).

If you want to fit a different coil use one from a K100 (NOT from a K75 or K11) - absolute bullet proof and smaller.

Thanking you sir! This gives me something else to googling a cold Canadian day. Sweet.
