Any tips for using the kickstart on the ten year old R100GSPD which I have owned from but only achieved starting using the kickstart on one occasion in all that time. What is the secret for kickstarting both from cold and from hot please? Thanks. Leo.

i bin told you have to put bike on mainstand, then stand on the l/h cylinder head with left foot & kick with right.

dunno cos mine's not got one. tried it on an old /7 series before i was told how & failed miserably.

Kickstarting

Yeah just as Cookie says, but you'll proberly have to keep doing it until a bit of speed is worked up.

Contentment

There is a red Button on the right hand bar Just turn on the ign.then simply press the button if this doesent work then take it to the garage!.Pease keep it in mind that if any one sees u standing up on one of the cylinders jumping about they may well think that sanity has left the building.I owned a 93 Gs/Pd and found it easier to push it to start that use the kick start. But in saying that i met a German gent once and he only ever kick started it .

URS CIVILITY HIMSELF.

Leo,

I did a course last year with a guy who was riding a R90S which had a kickstart fitted. He told me that the kickstart was intended to turn the engine over a few times, prior to using the electric starter in cold weather. He'd had this bike years and hadn't ever managed to start it with the kicker......

kick

i had mine for years never managed to start it have you got the correct ignition unit as there is special one fot kickstart bikes

Give it some wellie!!!!!

Try pumping the kicker so you build up some compression and you feel a lot of resistance at the top most point of the stroke. Then... give it some, large stylie, and it should explode into action. Failing that... press the little red button!
