I recently bought this motorcycle. I was doing the usual maintenance and I changed the spark plugs. The plugs I pulled out were older than hell and they were a single prong plug and even though they were really old the bike ran pretty well. Anyway, I purchased 2 new plugs from the dealership and the ones they gave me have 2 prongs that come up toward meeting in the middle.

Well now the motorcycle runs a bit rougher. It takes longer to warm up but once it does it runs ok but it now backfires a little bit when I downshift. I am thinking its the spark plugs that are wrong but I wanted to ask opinions. If I am heading in the right direction does anyone know the correct spark plugs to buy?

Similar experience

I changed the plugs in my relatively new to me 1100 recently. The bike was already running well with little of the infamous surging but I changed the plugs anyway as I didn't know how old they were and because I'm a fanny!. I bought some fancy pants expensive NGK iridium ones and the the bike ran significantly worse with noticeably more of the dreaded surging. It was also generally less smooth low down. Thought Id done something else wrong to it so to prove a point I put the old plugs back in and the bike runs a treat again.

The plugs that worked best (of the two I tried) are NGK BKR7EVX

I also tried the NGK Iridium and I thought they were hopeless . I have read great things about these Brisk plug and I'm going to try them next https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DR14BSXC-Brisk-Premium-EVO-Racing-Spark-Plugs/302793194716
