1st daft question of ownership

Hello

Have just picked up my new TB and want to fit my mudsling and crud catcher in the morning however when reading the instructions for the crud catcher it says to torque the bolts to 8nm.. Good job the lowest torque setting I have is 30nm..! How critical will it be if the figure is wrong? Can lots of damage be done if the bolts are too tight? Any advice appreciated..

Remember how tight the bolts were when you remove them. Then tighten the new ones roughly the same. they won't go anywhere.

"500nm". Blimey that's a lot. Never thought about it before but when I worked in Oz driving as JD 8630 (long time back ) I used to use a v long extension bar and just stand/bounce on the end of it to torque up the wheel bolts. Guess that equals about 500nm then.

Torque values are quoted DRY i.e. a frictional value.

If you use copper grease, it changes everything, in a potentially damaging way

On the other hand, the bolts will be easier to remove. The comment could be both helpful or potentially damaging

Thanks for the advice, have fitted it this morning.Will re-check when my new torque wrench arrives from amazon.. Haven't used copper grease as don't have any, would it be wise to use it or is it likely to cause more grief than its worth?

Nah, don't worry - a wee smidgen is useful as it helps prevent corrosion and make bolts easier to undo, that's all.

What sort of question do you ask about oil ? How many? what sort? and whats the best one???

8nm is just "nipped up". Could be wrong, but I don't think you'll get a torque wrench to register accurately that low anyway Even my little one only goes down to 10nm
