Hi fella`s, as promised here is the dyno run taken yesterday over at Dynojet UK in Lancashire. Great bunch of lads, a really hard place to find and they do all the race team tuning (they do, indeed, know their stuff :bow and had a BSB bike in the next bay!)

Anyhoo, here`s the plot for the standard bike Vs PC5 & full akra including headers. `fettled for more mid range rather than power (it`s only Nuts who rides about at 100% throttle opening of course, the fiendish beast he is :D)

One word of wisdom from the lads there - its all well and good fitting an akra but if you fit the headers too consider some tuning, from anywhere, as otherwise the engine could run leaner (because of the excellent increased flow from the headers) and ya engine might incur damage

I'm not sure where you get that from!:nenau

They would say that!:augie:D

So, what was the cost for the Dynojet/ PC5 package then Mark?

Nuts, don`t shoot the messenger mate I`d feel a little shabby if ya engine melted (and I stress `if`) and I did not share it with you or the lads

but only after I`d stopped peeing my pants from hilarity :D

Anyhoo, I can`t really give a representative price as due to `trade` involvement (did I tell you I make parts for Mr Nuts himself? :D) and the fact that mine was the first in the UK, there was no charges for the time (it took nearly all day).

What I can say was that the PC5 and associated hardware was £258 inc VAT, which I did happily pay for.

thats a good improvement on what is an excellent package in standard trim..bet it sounds good

That's smoothed out the midrange nicely, looks well worth doing :)

What was it like to ride home, how does that translate into what your arse felt?

Andres

Assuming the graph is showing before and after and the better figures are after, I'd be hard pressed to believe that you'll be blown away by those bhp and torque gains on the road. There's an improvement between 6 and 8k rpm if that's the mid-range you're talking about, but it wasn't bad before. Tiniest tweak on the fuelling too. The search for moto Utopia this is! But if you're happy that's all that counts! :beerjug:

Oh the sound...................... Nuts was right :drool

didn`t ride it coz I had to get back to work - the trip was a speeding van to and back from lancashire overnight to arrive first thing in the morning.

It`s my humble opinion that, based on what people say about this tuning team (and the fact there are raceteam trucks in their carpark and they don`t invite passing trade and are hidden for good reason - there`s 2 sets of electric gates to get into the compound...........) that when they say "the results will be very noticeable and smoother more powerful than stock" I kinda believe them. I feel that I will be even more blown away by the performance of the bike. But I guess I would say that eh :augie

Once I`ve ridden it I will let you know and if any of the XR fella`s wanna try it too as an unbiased opinion I`m happy with that too.

£300 per bhp increase - bargain!!

from the dark side this was sent

The stock map with the akro headers and can looks very smooth obviously the lambda censors has altered the fueling marginal, Bmw hide the emission testing bollox well but it's still there, it's never going to be a torque master as the power is very linear and I think you will feel the smoothness over the power as the update follows the existing map closely.

I would like to see stock headers and can for comparison.

Is it still called mansion house ! (I've been several times and still could never find the place) tbh I found it less informative, sit in a room and they come and tell you it's done now ! I like the more hands on approach being able to watch and getting feedback as and when.

I've got the comparison you ask for and when I get a moment in this hell known as work I will post it. I guess I was very lucky as I had as much access and feedback and time I could wish for. I did let it slip that I make parts for Royalty (His Nuts) so mebbe that did the trick

Just got mine booked into Hilltop motorcycles for a remap on April 4th, also running a full Akrapovich system.
It'll be an interesting comparison with the Dynojet results, and if I get a power and torque curve like yours I'll be a happy man.

Well let's hope so fella - I think nuts will be interested too (not that he knows how to ride a bike)

Why?

The stock XR is more than anyone can safely use on the road and is tractable from 30mph in 6th.

I can understand tuning on less powerful bikes, bikes with awful fuelling and for track/race bikes, but the XR is more than enough in stock trim imho.

Anyway, I'm sure it'll be a different beast to ride and you will manage to get to your destination 1.3 seconds faster than you did before, huh, and people say you can't buy time :D

Apparently, once you change the exhaust for a full system (it had to be done to get rid of the hideous cat) the bike turns into a bag of shite, so NEEDS to be remapped/ dyno'd.

I've ridden mine since fitting the full system, and it seems fine to me.:nenau

Apart from those oh so important 1.3 seconds :) also if the zorst and especially the headers are changed it can cause the engine to run leaner (coz of the better gas flow) which may result in engine damage so a tune is quite important - least of all to make my bike quicker than Nuts's :)

Ok, so after spending the day on the bike yesterday, it's fantastic at full chat, and normal riding, but is now quite lumpy at slow speeds/ riding in slow traffic.

Will the PC5/ Hilltop route cure this? I can get Geoff to work his magic for £250, and he's worked wonders on my GSA, so the question is what's better? PC5 or Hilltop?

The bike doesn't need any more power, but if the low speed lumpiness can be sorted, it'll be perfect.
