I've _never_ been off road on a bike before, so spurred on by Zmeagol's neat map, and the fitting of the GPS onto the new bike, I found myself wobbling down the Old Coach road that runs parallel to the A27 ! Excellent fun :) Needed to gaffa tape my right hand down to keep it off the front brake though. Time to sign up for the off road course I guess, so that I can get all cocky and then smash up someone else's GS !

A word of warning though - you are best using bungees on your topbox while off road - they are known to bounce off - DAMHIK

Could some give me the grid ref / place names of the start and and of the 'Old Coach Road'. Is it too hard for a relative beginner?

Hey ! *nods* to the Hove resident !

I got the location from this post , plugged it into the GPS and off I went. I only tootled down the first section, which is gravel and didn't have too many 'moments'...the brush guards on the bars were pretty useful though :) Its quite easy to find the start, just head east alone the A27 and I believe there's a signpost to west firle. Down that road, and you reach a junction that goes round to the left. Go straight on (right, technically) and a little way down on the left you'll see the public byway . Good luck !

As an aside (newbie question), when people are riding tracks like this, would you tend to ride in one of the two tyre tracks, or along the hump in the middle ?? 'It depends' I guess, just wondered what everyone thought...

Thanks for all your help guys, although I could not get the map attachment to work.

I will definitely give the old coach road ago. I have just bought a 2nd hand R1100GS, its an old 'L' reg but is very well looked after, my Brother (Worthing boy) has the same but 'M' reg. I have only been riding since April 05 and bought a F650 and rode to Ireland and back, after 4,000 miles and not being able to handle my younger brother on a bigger bike!, last week I traded up to the 1100! He, on the other hand, has 8 years road experience under his belt!

I think the Old Coach Road should be a good start, but maybe we should have a couple of goes before embarrasing ourselves with you guys.

Thanks Chris
PS I am the one riding round Hove on a mid-90s yellow seat!!!

Great stuff can you make our meet at the Plough at Plumpton this Thursday 1900hrs, bring your brother. see meets in west sussex thread.

Thanks for the invite, unfortunately will not be able to make next couple of weeks as am on Holiday with the misses, but hopefully in September after a couple of practice goes we could come along with you guys and find out what its all about!

Thanks

Chris

I'd like to join you if I may

Hi, possible for me to come along next time you do this sort of thing on the Downs? I live in North London, ride a 1200. (do you go on standard tyres?)
