1st time to Santander, now where?

One of my problems will be avoiding the Tour de France which may give me another problem of lack of available accommodation, I really don't know:nenau
So I am wondering if it might be advisable to take a tent just in case, what are the average night time temps for northern Spain and the Pyrenees in mid July?

I would spend more time in the Picos and Pyrenees head over to Portugal fantastic empty roads cheap accomodation friendly locals etc.We used to comeback via France not anymore. The money spent on petrol and accomodation is about the same as the return boat from Santander. The Spanish side is much cheaper, personally don,t be tempted by Andorra either busy and expensive.Enjoy.

Agree but twice on a 24 hr crossing when you could come back thro france but be different and take a few days and keep off any main roads , you will find some great places , hit the main roads again after Poitiers (eg)
This is my choice as i hate the boring ferry , ( feel like a captured animal)
