2 quick questions

So many accessories, its a maze out there

I'm thinking of buying a radiator grill from Nippy Normans for my 12gs, can anyone tell me how it is mounted? Cable ties maybe?

Also, is it absolutely necessary to use the screws for holding a fender extender in situ? Has anyone just fitted it with the sticky pads? Will it stay on?

radiator grill goes on with longer screws in the existing holes - 5 min fit job.

the fender extender really needs the screws as it'll come loose as far as I know...

Fender extender can be done with pop rivets....

Flying fender extender

Use screws! Mine flew off the first trip in the rain even though I put extra sticky pads on.

If you're talking aluminium pop rivets into plastic,my advice is don't. It would obviously depend on the plastic, temperature and break strain on the rivet, but these expand sideways before "popping". In cold weather, with stiff plastic, don't be suprised if the plastic "pops" before the rivet does. It might not of course.
Use screws, and for the same reasons be careful with those too.

I did everything properly: cleaned the surfaces, used the supplied tape, put extra 3M double sided tape on all available mating surfaces. It sat for a week before I lost it in the rain so the bonds should have been cured.

The thing was left in the road somewhere, probably damaged so I didn't go back.

If I were to bother fitting one again, and I won't, I would try and get some real s**t to a blanket tape because it does exist and I don't like to see the screws.

I'm probably not going to bother with the fender extender (seems like to much hassle).

Also, would you guys recommend any particular rear hugger?

Motorrad Concepts hugger gets from me. It goes far enough down at the front to keep the spray from soaking both your left leg & boot and keeps the rear shock protected from direct road spray so fulfills my requirements from a hugger.

I used poprivets to fix the extender (NippyNorman) to the front fender, with metal washers on the inside the rivet won't expand so much. It really reduces the spray on the front of the engine and exhaust cross pipe.

For my fender extender I used some 'no more nails' type stuff from Homebase - I think it was Unibond - it sticks non-porous to non-porous and is also waterproof. Seems to have worked so far...

Agree on the washers on rivets - 5 minutes and no worrying about is it cured yet?

The MC hugger (sounds like a rap artist!) does it for me too. The only reason I can think for not fitting it is if you are going offroad in really muddy conditions....and I'm not; got my CRM for that!

Fender extender

I removed my front mud guard and used 'aruldite' (excuss spelling) only. It has been since July (6K miles) without problem. I also used this method on my previous Fazer 1000 and it was on for 3 years (22K miles) and was still stuck solid when I sold bike. Just secure it with some sort of clamp until set. Looks much better than screws/rivots.
