Hi

I'm new on here so any help would be much appreciated.

ive only ridden 380 miles on my new 1200 triple black and when washing it yesterday realized the headlight glass is cracked!

any idea's what I can do? any chance on warranty? Can you get the new glass only or is it a complete new unit? if so, where are the cheapest? i bought it from Roy Pidcocks on Long Eaton.

Any advise much appreciated!

Thanks

hello

welcome to the site. i am with the previous reply, if its a stone chip i cannot see that being a warranty issue. I would speak with the dealer and see if you can get a replacement at cost price only.

Got a hole in the lens on my 1200 on the first day of ownership.
Got a sympathetic discount on a replacement unit - it was a whole unit and not just a lens on a 06 model don't know if it's changed.
But I'd risk a crack on a new bike it's an MOT failure and you haven't got one of them for 3 years or it's a vehicle rectification if a kind police officer notices.

Take the chance

yeh, cheers guys. just really annoying as headlight protector was on my list of things to get!!!

I hear a new unit is expensive! may stick with this as is and keep my eye out for a cheap unit on ebay. will also check with the dealer to see if a trade sale is an option.

Thanks again.

If it isn't a stone chip, but is a heat/vibration induced manufacturing defect then you should talk to your dealer about warranty replacement.

You should be able to tell by looking at it if it was a stone chip. If you're not sure, post a picture on here and one of the "specialists:blast" will advise.:thumb

Thanks Guys

Im heading over to the dealer today and he talked about a "good will gesture" and that they may be able to do it on warranty if there is no chip.

tell me, I rode the bike to the motoGP at silverstone on the motorway and although it sat great at 80/90 (sorry officer!) i couldnt see anything from through the right hand mirror due to vibration. Is this usually the case?

No, not usual. I've had bikes with the mirror vibration you describe but neither my '08 or my 2012 have been amongst them. Silly thought ... have you tried nipping the mirror lock nut up?

Mine worked loose after the bike had done 50 miles, but there was a spanner in the toolkit, so I tightened it up by the side of the road.:thumb

Good news! the dealer agreed to replace the headlight under warranty without any major quibble. it did help out that it had no chip oin it or i would have struggled.............

Big thanks and shout out to a decent BMW dealer - Roy Pidcocks's of Long Eaton, Notts.

Cheers guys. will try tightening the mirror

Get yourself the BMW headlight protector - removable for cleaning etc and not too expensive - well, much cheaper than a new headlight anyway! :thumb
