I'm off to mugello for the Italian gp with missus on back. Do I go on my 2010 800gs or my 2003 Suzuki 1400 gsx

Done 1 weekend to France on both with her and she prefers the 14. The engines great and smooth but it's a naked

The 800s got a new screen and seat and still got euro breakdown under warranty. It's a great bike solo but as hard as I try it's got a jerky throttle so regularly bashing helmets

Anyone done a tour with a pillion on the 8

It's almost relationship f8gs corner :augie

When she turns to you in bed & says "Not tonight" (this may continue for a while). Think back to your decision! :beerjug:

So you recommend leave the missus at home, run off with my gs, enjoy jerking the throttle and no helmets banging each other

I thought them lot on the gsx forum were bad for never giving a straight answer:beerjug:

I did Italy last year on the Tuono, so touring on a big naked bike can be done, although my other half has her own bike sos i can't comment on what it would be like with a pillion.

I'm wrong on so many levels but your response was executed with deep thought & precision. g1

The F800GS is a bit compact for 2, at least if your the size of me and the Mrs. It can be done but with the distance and daily mileage you are talking about large cc and the biggest saddle must be the way to go. Cost much more in petrol but a happy Mrs is 2/3 the way to a happy holiday. I love bikes but consider flying out and hiring a car for the week. I have fly/driven/camped to Italy for the past four years and its the easiest way. I miss the bike but have a great time, leaves four other weeks to have the bike holidays I really want.

Hi, my 2 penny worth, 2up from North England to ferry then off to Picos for a weeks touring. Full panniers and not a murmur from SWMBO. As previous post says, depends on your size. As for cubes being best, no probs fully loaded at mway speeds, or up mountain passes. Oh, and no head banging either.

Either way, have a fantastic trip, sounds great.

I,m a 17stoner and the missus (who won't be reading this hopefully) is a medium sized lady no problems no head banging if you measure the length of the seat not much difference to 1200GSA just narrower for the rider.
No problem with power or motorway speeds got stopped in Ireland by the Garda doing between 90 and 100mph tailing an XJS Jag
But all that said the torque is not as good as the 1150 and 1200 so you have to work the engine a bit two up.

Did 12 days round Spain 2 summers ago 2up with no complaints at all.

Though we weren't doing crazy long days

The head banging thing can be a problem, if I'm in a hurry or stressed my riding tends to suffer and the smoothness evaporates. It takes a few bumps to regain my composure, it's all about smoothness.

Having said all that, if I had the option I'd take the bigger bike

:nenau

I did 35.000km in 4 months last summer 2up with all camping gear, no problem at all.

P.D With touratech seat.

But the 8 so cool matching twat suits, and tour x's standing on pegs

Hope you enjoy the GP however you get there :beerjug:
