2002 R1150GS non-starting problems

Probably - forget about in gear, especially if you're on a side stand as you might wind it off the stand when you turn. I used to hang a car battery off the brake pedal. I can't see the point though - that's what the locking slot is there for after all I'm going to make up one of these when I get round to it

Just like to thank all you folks for the excellent advice. Got a sensor delivered from motoworks today along with the bmw crank holding pin. And after a careful methodical few hours in the workshop the old girl fired up like a beauty. Not too scary a job after all and a few more bits of knowledge added to my GS dismantling database.

Plus I don't get killed dead by my girlfriend for ruining the Cornwall trip. Which is always a bonus.
