Afternoon all,

I am in need of a new battery for my 2003 1150GS. It was an ABS model but Steptoe kindly performed a Servoectomy a couple of years ago.

I usually use Tayna.co.uk for my batteries but am a little confused as they are offering AGM, Gel or Wet spec batteries and I haven't a scooby as to which of these types is preferable, although I understand that there may be an issue as some batteries might be slightly too big to fit the tray.

Any thoughts and recommendations most welcome!

I've just fitted an Enduroline from Tayna. Same as the last one and that went for about 8 years. Five quid cheaper than the 2014 price too.

Original battery was (I think) an Exide gel type. It has been said that AGM batteries like the Enduroline need more of a charge than the GS gives, but mine has been fine.

I have just fitted an EXIDE AGM 12-18 which has a rating of 250CCA EN which was the highest cranking of a normal battery I could find. £65 off eBay

Got round to fitting the tank back on to my bike today - I would not recommend the Enduroline battery now - they have changed the design so the terminals are flush on the top of the battery rather than stepped down like the older one. Thought it would be OK, but it's not -there might be enough clearance under the tank for general road use, but on unmade roads I can see the terminals potentially making contact with the underside of the tank. I've emailed Tayna to see what they say, but I think it's gonna have to go back. What a PITA.

I fitted one of these a couple of years ago to my R1150R. It works perfectly. Other than occasional use of an Optimate when that bike isn't being used much, it's been literally fit it and forget it.

Was that fitted to an 1150GS please ? (I haven't got time to take mine out to check the dimensions - but need to order one sharpish, as I HAVE to use the bike on Thursday - rather than WANTING to today)

Seems cheap at Tayna right now - £50.99 + delivery.

yes, it's the right battery - any of those here will do https://www.tayna.co.uk/motorcycle-batteries/types/51913/ but the Exide 12-18 is what I would buy from that list

I’ve an original exide/varta gel battery on a 2005 bike that’s still works perfectly… just saying .

When fitting my new Exide, I noticed the previous brand I'd put on a number of years ago
was... an Exide. It hadn't lasted 17 years though! More like 7 from memory but that's shot now so could be as low as 4.
