The old girl (1150) needs a new battery.

I usually run the Optimate on once a month for a couple of days but clearly not using the bike last year at all has taken its toll.

Any recommendations on batteries or are they all just as shite as each other these days?

Yep.
Stick to main brands. An AGM would be slightly more resilient.

Not sure about the best what, but Tanya batteries are the best where.

Excellent company to deal with, speedy delivery and normally beat prices too.
Agreed. When I ordered a battery from them one afternoon it arrived the next day.

My lithium Ion works really well on my RS 1250

Yes I have used Tayna (SIC) before and Alpha Batteries.... just wondered what, if any, make was favoured right now.

Yes I fitted an AGM to the KTM a couple of years ago and it seems fine so far.

Will have a mooch about and see what's out there.

I’ve been using Motbatt now for quite a few years, no issues so far. 1150’s and 1200’s.
This.
Mikeyboy put one on mine when it had its refurb. Been superb so far.

I’ve found that it’s bit a bit hit and miss with batteries.
I had a Varta one that lasted for years, bought another when it became weak, and the second one was no where near long lasting.
Just buy a recognised make, but make sure the dimensions are correct! Some vary by a few mm and can be sods to fit.

Agree with KMD, Motobatt's are pretty good for the price. Have one currently fitted to my DRZ. The other two bikes are Yuasa.

Someone who has some experience in the field generally suggested me to keep to main brands because, yes, ultimately almost all battery come from the same place, but there is a slight difference in specification and how they are handled/maintained until they reach customers.

At the cost of sounding pedantic* (not my intention!) I'd try to see how much the battery discharges in between the "optimate days".
It's the partially uncharged status that eventually gets them all.

*I've killed many a battery in my time, led to a lot of learning :D :D :D

Okay thanks, might go for one of these.

it's that time of year!

I would probably go for the Numax one instead. My local Motor Factor rates them.
The Numax is out of stock too.

I have been let down by a Varta car battery....

The dimensions on the Motobatt look to be okay.

Three Motobatt failures just out of warranty (GSX1100SD, R1150GS and Versys ), bikes always on Optimate /charging systems fine and never had a failure with Yuasa / Odyssey or Yuasa other than due to old age , local stockist will no longer keep Motobatt due to failures

Reports of Motobatt issues is what's causing me to pause on pulling the trigger on one of their hybrid batteries which otherwise get great reviews. OTOH the Yuasa it would replace has done nearly 5 years on a bike that lives outside and hasn't seen a charger so maybe I should just go with what I know will work (& is around £50 cheaper)!

Ordered a Motobatt earlier this afternoon before seeing this.

The Yuasa that is currently fitted has only been on the bike 4 years, it was £75 in 2020, they are now £55.
After removing it earlier 4 out of the 6 cells were down on water level, I have some battery acid here and thought of just topping it up and seeing how it holds a charge.... but then decided to order the Motobatt instead.
