I've read through loads of threads about Y piece's which are all very helpful but there appear to be many different experiences. So I have 1 question:

Has anyone with an Adventure, fitted a Y piece (which one?) to either a Remus Revolution silencer or the OE one, and had NO issues with backfiring AND had the bike checked to prove it isn't running lean AND had no issues with melting the standard system pannier? I really want to improve the sound but don't want to take any risks at all with lean running issues let alone pissing off my neighbours with gunshot style backfires.

Advice gratefully received and I know you can improve the Y piece seal, refit the Lambda sensor, add the Remus extension piece, foil back the pannier etc etc but even then, there appears to be very mixed results according to this forum.

Cheers !

Y Piece

I've had a Remus Y piece with the OE silencer on my Adventure for the last 4,000 miles.

The bike does not run noticeably lean (judged by plug colour inspection) and I have just returned from France (1800 miles) using the BMW Adventure alu panniers.

The pannier by the silencer had a slight oil stain (cleaned off OK) at the edge of the silencer cutout but there was no burning or damage inside or out and believe me we were not hanging around but driving hard and fast.

The Y piece does noticeably improve the sound and appears to improve the acceleration. On my bike it "burbles" rather than backfires when the throttle is closed after accelerating hard and I probably have only had about 4 or 5 true backfires in the last 6 months. I cannot make it backfire to order so on my experience I wouldn't hesitate to say go for it.

Hope that was helpful

Y-Piece

Y-Piece.

Fitted Remus Y piece and rear can to my 2003 Adv. when it had 3000 miles on the clock. Now 8000. Performance increase was substantial and made riding the bike much more fun. Bike does backfire on deceleration quite often. Tried origional rear silencer with Y piece and backfiring almost stopped, noise was more acceptable but I could't live with the loss of power.

I then added a modified chip which made it run richer and increased r.p.m. but power increase was very small. (Don't think it was worth the cost) Don't have panniers so can't comment there.

I say go for it.

I am pretty new to the GS scene, and bought my Adventure 3 months ago. It had the Y-piece already fitted with a Remus Titanium pipe.
It back fires like a good en getting off the gas, my mates infront and behind could hear it and they had plugs in. So it is pretty loud.
As for the panniers, i have the BMW Alu ones and they are stained but i doubt it will burn through. It is warping my number plate tho so will have to go smaller. Lovely note. Makes up for it.

Cost less than a new piston and cylinder me thinks!
