2004 1150GS 70,000 MILES IS A WRITE OFF

If you were going to sell your 1150 in an uncrashed state to buy, say, an RT, how much would you hope to get for it, probably about £4750, so I would take the money and look upon the whole experience as an opportunity.

Paul Young, As you said, why not try to haggle, I got £4,600 in the end.:thumb2:D deal done, my baby has gone.

Slightly mixed feelings though.:blagblah

So that's my RT. I sold it on ebay last week.

I've never heard of this web site and I'm not in Beckenham. Neither is the guy I've sold it to. Those are my photo's - WTF is going on?

So you'll get £2750 and your bike back.. Or £4500 that you'll spend on another GS...

Think about it - A used subframe around £90-£110. Couple of hours to fit it, and your back on the road on a bike you know and with £2.5k in your back pocket....

The smoke won't be anymore than oil in the cylinder after laying on it's side.

good idea, and while its in bits getting repaired you can take the opportunity to clean/paint/replace the corroded or dirty parts and have it looking A1 and enjoy the 2.5k you have burning a hole in your pocket :confused:

Glad I could help, but did you not haggle over the salvage price as well...?
 
Difficult one this, the old head vs heart battle. Seems like a good price being offered but the salvage price also seems very steep. My 850 was written off at the end of last year and I was offered £2400 but managed to buy the "salvage" for only £300.
New front frame, beak, headlight etc and I still have my bike and about £1,200 in hand after a bit of a splurge on goodies.
Guess it depends on how soft towards your bike you are as the £4.5K is tempting.

Steptoe has spoken, seems quite repairable.

It is my favorite bike out of the four that I have, and it is my ambition to get it past 100,000 miles.

It still gives me a buzz, compared to my BMW 100RT, or Yamaha XJ900S Diversion, or my Yamaha FJ12003CV. I've never owned a vehicle for so long, or put those miles on.

It beats any of them on mpg and tyre longevity.

Perhaps one of the others will have to go, accessing the garage for tools is tedious.

Which one though? The Divvy does what it is meant to, the FJ can be a blast. The RT is for bimbling.:confused:
 
Glad you keeping it, a faithful GS should be kept on the road where it belongs, I hope your war wounds are healing :beerjug:
 
I bought my 2005 R1200RT for £4700 with only 11k on the clock. Take the money and grab a bargain. Buyers market.
