Take the money and get something else.
I wrote off my late brother-in-law's K1100LT which I had inherited so for sentimental reasons I bought it back. I rebuilt it, had it back on the road for a few years then sold it on but to be honest I wished I had just let it go at the time.
When my beloved 75th Anni 11GS with 43k on got nicked and trashed by kids after 8 years I just let it go, having been made wise by my first experience. Like Eliminator, I wanted to keep it forever but sometimes it's better to just move on.
That's my tuppence worth anyway
