2005 R1150GSA SE 72k miles help on value

Yes 4th Dimension. As I said they've told me I can't buy it back it has to go to go to an authorised dismantler/scrap dealer. It's Cat B so can't be put back on the road.

Con men, the stories I’ve heard and customers encounters with 4th dimension 🙄 - that’s why after an accident never let your bike be taken to such places. Get an estimate for insurance purposes and then get it back home ..
until any insurance payout it’s your property. I’m not 100% sure but I thought the insurance company is responsible for any storage charges if they advised/had the bike taken to their repairers .,

they're up the road from me, I got an invite into the place a while back... it's one hell of an operation....

wouldn't be too keen to have anything I owned end up in there..

The storage fee along with bike collection fee will, in this case, be charged to Mr Uturns insurance.

I'm surprised 4th dimension didn't try and get Dave to have a loan bike while the claim was being handled. I have heard reports of up to ÂŁ500 a day being charged for their loan bikes, again all being charged to the other parties insurance.

Bingo
You’re being had over
They’re gonna break it for a lot of money
Yep, my 1st reaction and the value of parts etc will have been ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁ over... No experience of companies involved unlike Steptoe etc but it sounds like a done deal cat B...

It was a Friday afternoon. When I got home (given a lift by the Uturner) I called Bikesure who put me straight on to 4th Dimension. They said they'd arrange recovery to my house. I got a call a few days later to say they were picking it up. I said I'd rather leave it at my place and couldn't they assess it there. They said no, it had to go to their facility. I assumed it would be written off Cat N and I'd have bought it off them so best leave it at home but they wouldn't have it. I was told I could deal with my insurer myself but then I'd be responsible for recovery, transport and storage which I would then try and recover.
I was confident it was a no fault accident so took the course of least resistance.
It was very quickly notified to DVLA as Cat B which is terminal unless there's a way to reverse it. If I could be arsed......
No doubt they're a slick operation and also no doubt in whose interests they're acting every step of the way.
If it hadn't been for the quick response of their legal associates, Minster Law, regarding my personal injury aspect I'd have probably declined their services. I had been warned although I'd also heard a good report from a well known GSer about them.

They did try and get me to have a loan bike but I declined on the basis I've got plenty of bikes and I was in no mood to contemplate riding at the time. Or laughing, sneezing, coughing or moving about generally :)

YOU can choose where you want your bike to go for any damage estimate, regardless of where your insurance company tries to steer you.

When my 5 month old VW UP got hit by a deliveroo rider my insurance company told me to take it to their recommended repairer. I refused and told them it’s going to a VW main dealer due to its age.
They couldn’t stop me.
Had VW do the repairs, which, as a plus, meant any future corrosion issues if needed would be covered, they wouldn’t have been if a 3rd party had done the repairs .

Once I'd phoned the broker, Bikesure, they put me on to 4th Dimension and it was all taken out of my hands very quickly. Within 45 mins I had documentation through and a credit storage agreement to sign.

I was in no frame of mind or physically capable of getting my unrideable bike back home so I let them get on with it 🤷‍♂️

Interestingly it was the 3rd party insurers who arranged the assessor and they subsequently made the settlement offer. I was told that this money would be paid straight away and that if I could show that the figure was too low the additional sum would be paid at a later date.

I didn't mean to go into all the detail here but I hope telling the tale might help someone in the future if they're unfortunate enough to find themselves in a similar situation.

Which brings me back to the original purpose of the post.....thanks for all the feedback and help on value. I knew it was going to be tricky to get good evidence of the SE's value so I'll just give them what I've got which is very little :)

I expect because they’d dealt with 4th Dimension previously and knew time was of the essence seeing as 4th dimension purposely take their time, all the while the storage/bike hire charges are being racked up to astronomical cost.
I wonder if the Cat B they declared to you and the insurers gets downgraded inbetween settlement and the DVLA receiving any paperwork/logbook

That's how they work, they contact you while you are still trying to process what's going on and bombard you with 'things you must sign' to get the process moving.

There is nothing illegal in what they are doing but it is certainly immoral, the insurance brokers and companies clearly know this is going on and are all party to the defraud by the back door.

4th dimension made a ÂŁ24 million gross profit last year, up from ÂŁ16 million in 2023

I tried to put the private plate on retention online yesterday once I'd heard it was written but the DVLA had already had notification of Cat B write off and I couldn't do it. I had to apply by post and we'll see what happens.

I'd be interested to know if there's a way to get the Cat B reversed or re-assessed. On the other hand I'd just like a fair settlement and move on.

Update: Somehow or other 4th D agreed to let me have the bike back FOC, just delivery charge of ÂŁ114, on the basis that I undertake to get the frame scrapped at an ATF (Authorised Transfer Facility). I think it was down to a bit of sympathy for me and a bit of me being irritating and asking lots of questions. Anyhow they did right by me.

I have now sourced a frame+V5, stanchions, telelever, mudguard (self coloured black from BMW) and beak from Motorworks and as soon as the mudguard is back from being painted I'll finish putting it all back together. Frame is already swapped and a bit of tidying up done. As suspected the original frame is undamaged. I'm ditching the HID spots as all the wiring is annoying. I may put LED ones on later if I feel the need. Who needs to be extra visible anyway.... :DD

The 3rd Party Insurer have now sent me ÂŁ3950 which they say is returnable all or in part if I'm found at all liable.

I'll post a pic of the finished build as and when.

I'm glad it's worked out like this as i couldn't bear the thought of the bike being scrapped.

Well done

A real love story.....................congratulations

My brother had a claim involving 4th dimension recently - found them a nightmare to work with. Ended up negotiating a payment directly with his insurance company, said it was his dream bike (a blade) and immaculate pre-accident, sent them a list of parts off Fowlers website and said he’d fix it himself if they paid for the bits, which they agreed. Bike ultimately wasn’t written off either.

Hope you work something out pal!

Edit…I need to read threads fully! Glad you got it sorted!

I'm on the road again.....So, new s/hand frame from a 2004 and various other front end bits. Strictly speaking not an SE anymore but it is to all intents and purposes. Replacing the frame member with the 2004 GSA one wasn't as much of a faff as I'd thought it might be. MOT'd today and passed without a hitch :)(y)

I have said it before and will continue to shout it out as loud as I can until people listen , " 4TH DIMENSION AREA BUNCH OF LYING CHISELLING THIEVING SHYSTERS , HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CNUTS !!!!!!!!!!!!! "

It is your bike until you hand over the V5c and keys they cannot dictate to you (or bully you with veiled threats ) that you must let 4th Dimension take over the claim handling , storage and repairs .
