2006 R1200GS - Headlight

So, I've had my 1200 for two weeks and I have to replace my main beam bulb, no problem I said, it'll be dead easy!

The broken bulb was a tight fit, so in hindsight, the new would would be. Never mind, I'll just use a bit of force to fit it, oh crap, what was that!? Something gave up.....

I've since found out, from this forum, that the fulcrum points for the adjustment system have a habit of 'popping' out if you try to force a bulb, and yes, that's what has happened. OK, I thought, I'll just remove the screen and headlight unit and squeeze it all back together.

NO!! What I have actually done is manage to remove both the vertical and horizontal pivot points within the headlight unit... AAAAAAARRRRGGGHHHHH feck!

I've tried everything I can think of to get the damn thing to go back together, and nothing... Really.. nothing has happended with it. No mater how hard I try to push, pull, twist and squeeze, the bloody things will not go back together.

I'm almost resigned to the fact that I'm going to have to buy a new headlight unit for some extortionate price from BMW, although, I've seen a few units go for £150ish in fleabay.

So, anyway, my question is.... does anyone have anyway of getting the fulcrum points back together, or am I doomed to putting my hand in my pocket?

mentions cutting out holes etc in the bottom of the unit. This is what I did as it was the only way I was going to get to the fitting. It's been fine since, although I only dislodged the lower ball and cup.

I would have a go at drilling/cutting a hole in the bottom of the unit, if you muck it up you've lost nothing as you are going to have to buy a new unit anyway but you may have saved yourself several hundred££'s on a new one.

+1. It was the only way to fix the fecking thing. All fine now and covered the hole at the base of the unit with Ducktape.

Nearly three hours later, I've done it!! The headlight is fixed

It's amazing how much determination possibly having to spend £££'s can give you. I won't say it was easy, and I had to drill two holes in the bottom of the assembly coz I missed on the first attempt, but it's done. One bit of advice I would give anyone else with the same issue as this (both ball joints coming off) is to make sure the side to side joint is put back in first coz it won't work if the up down one is already in. I found this out the hard way and had to undo all my hard work and disconnect the bottom one after much faffing to get it back in the first place.
