Hi
Can any one direct me to an article or write up on how to change a rear wheel bearing on a 2006 GS?
I have searched on here but not found anything.
Another possible is does the Clymer manual cover wheel bearings as the Haines does not.

Cheers

What you really need are the instructions on how to dismantle the final drive, fit new bearings and then re-assemble
as the final drive bearings are the wheel bearings also. There are a lot of threads available on here on the subject that you can read up on.

As said by other's lots of threads detailing the rear hub,

Food for thought, if one bearing is showing signs of wear, chances are others will be too.

Some are replaceable by the average mechanically minded owner, some parts need

dedicated tooling and presses.

A friend at work had the rear bearing (dont know which) done by WMB and it was in

the region of £200.

If when you drop the hub, you find wear on the pinion shaft / bearing the

aforementioned facility wont touch it. then your looking £1200 for a new unit.

Alternativly give Mikeyboy from this parish a call / text / IM and discuss - he's done

countless rebuilds of final drives mine included - and comes highly regarded /

reccomended.

£200 for the wheel bearing is not "too" bad compared to a new FD, but this below shows exactly why that's a false economy especially on older bikes. The internal bearings won't be in much better condition.

Thanks chaps,
I will try to find a second hand bevel box and then have the old one rebuilt.
I dropped Mikeyboy a line but no reply yet. Soon as he does il send the
old one to him.

I believe Mikey is on an "adventure" 5 weeks i believe

Mikey rebuilt my Mk 2 final drive and great job it is too. However, the last models were better internally so a late model FD with the correct ratio could be the best option.
