2006 Tank Bag

Going to get myself a tank bag, did some searching, found this thread:

My understanding and my local BMW dealer (NOG) is that the 2008 bags won't fit 2006 bike.

Does anyone have any photos of BMW tank bag pre 2007? Apparently they only come in one size too

replying to my own thread 3 times before a reply Has to be a record!

Just wondering what model year my own bike is, its a 56 plate, but the dash is different from other '06 bikes i have ridden.

Take it i am not going to be lucky and be able to mount the later much nicer bags?

I have a tank bag from an '06 R12GS that I'm about to put either on here or ebay. I've just traded my '06 in for a '59 SE.

I actually prefer the older bag, but it don't fit the newer bikes. The usable volume is bigger without being a lot bigger externally. The bum bag on the front is a lot more practical on the older bag.

The bit that sticks to the tank is available as a spare part, number 71 60 7 687 607 according the label on mine. It cost me about GBP6 two years ago when I decided a spare would be a good idea. It was ordered for a 2006 model GS and looks identical to the one stuck to the tank. The zip part that sticks to it should come with the bag.

Yes, but it will need something to make it sticky again. The zipper actually attaches to a velcro pad that is then stuck to your tank.

I have used body trim mounting tape from somewhere like Halfords previously to secure it.

in my opinion the bmw tank bag for your model looks too big and cumbersome - check out the "famsa" range of tank bags

Too late!

I find it fits quite well, if anything its a tad small

Mine expands to that size almost. Still a little confused as earlier posts suggests the later bags do not fit the 2006 year.

Once you pictured is 'the' bag for pre 2008, but one i got from NOG fits well, not complaining. Its just about right size, maybe prefer it a little bigger, but shape of the tank causes problems

Have a look in the latest Hein Gericke catalogue at their own GS suitable bags and the Oxford products range. I have used both types - one for touring and one for days out and they both work well.
