2008 1200GS and 1200GSA details

Gearing

Has anyone heard is it is just the 1st gear on the Adventure that's different, or is it the rest as well?:nenau

I;ve been told that "book value" on my Jan 06 1200GS ABS is £5,800 (bike not seen by dealer)

Funnily enough, I was told by my dealer that my June '05 12GS with 13.5k was worth £6,750 on a trade-in. Looks like that might change then. :thedummy

Man - i've just gotta get one... :mmmm

First sign of a dealer having a demo (Germany).

Crap, still 3 full months of waiting !
:tosser

new GS - new seat??

Having suffered the pain of my 05 GS seat :eek:and gone for a Sargent seat :hugthe comfort is superb and my old "Farmer Giles" are living in luxury on my daily 100mile commute.

So the question is - have they finally put a decent, comfortable seat on the 08 model???:rob:nenau

According to the specs in my bi-weekly magazine, new foam has been used for the seat. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

And someones nicked the handgards off the Adventure, and stuck them on the GS:mcgun

Yup, I already got a remark on another forum saying the handguards are missing. It is likely they made a swap to the blue one..... to make the blue one look less cheap. :D

This is how it is supposed to look:

Saw the 1200GS at the NEC this week, IMO it looks very good. Much more cohesive design, and less plastic looking than the currrent model. The side pods on the current bike don't flow with the bikes lines at all, just a weird angular shape, and very plasticy looking.
I do agree that it looks more road than off road now. Black cylinders, magnesium ends, magnesium forks, alloy (not black) yoke, etc. all look more finished. If people don't like the look of the silver sections on the side pods they could easily be sprayed to match the rest of pod. The only flimsy plasticy piece is the spoiler over the oil cooler.
Guy on the stand said that UK bikes will come with hand guards as std.
When the current model came out everybody said how ugly that was, seems people just don't like change.
It will be very interesting to see how well it sells. Looking forward to a test ride to see what the engine feels like.
I am also interested in getting the new KTM 990 SM, everbody on the KTM forum are saying just the same things about the new looks, but in this case I think I agree with them. Still a horny bike though & I'm sure will be a fun ride.
As somebody else has said, you don't look at the mantel piece when you are stoking the fire !!

I was thinking of updating my bike to the 08 mk2 GS, However I have visited 4 dealers and my 11 month old, 6800 mile, GS trade in price varys from £6250:eek: to £7500:eek:

I am staggered, there is no way I would change losing that much money in 12 months. So much for BMW holding their price!!!

Well you're always going to get shafted selling your bike to a dealer. You're going to get shafted even more trading in a bike less than a year old. Then you're going to get right royally shafted for trying to ditch a bike in winter.

If you really need a MkII, sell your bike privately in Spring.

...but does it have the funky clocks that sweep the dials on start up like the 1200R?

If it still has the fuel pump electrics exposed to water ingress, then it's the same old flawed design and not fit for purpose. On the good side it looks as though they have fastened the tank panels on properley. The old GS plastic side panels with the plastic front clip are a hopeless design and extremely dangerous when they blow off at high speed.
