These would be the one's with the rivetted bobbins that require the whole disc to be replaced........god knows why BMW changed:blast Anyways, I have a bit of front/back play in both of mine (none side to side) and my Reprom doesn't indicate any parameters. The bike's done 30K. Does anyone know what (if any) play is permissible? Also, anyone found a reasonably priced replacement? I can get the OEM Brembo's for £320 a set but that seems a bit steep to me especially with new pads on top. On the GS Shop website there's no reference to the pre or post 08 models when BMW switched from replaceable bobbins to fixed - maybe Steptoe could elaborate?

Thanks all.

If the discs are good, perhaps possible to hack the old bobbins off with a hefty angle grinder. I gave it a go, got bored and simply got new discs...

Having got one fixed bobbin off, I can confirm that the old type bobbins fit the newer discs

Old style discs DO fit but you will need an extra set of the thin flat mounting washers to push the discs out further from the hubs so they sit centrally in the front calipers.

At least you can then change bobbins next time.

Got my discs, bobbins, flat and wavey washers from sherlocks... Easy job...

Roger.

There's loads of life left in the disc's - they're not even half worn yet. That's why I'm wondering how long I can leave them for - they have less movement than I had on my K1100RS when I changed the bobbins on that. There's no spec I can find though as to how much movement can be allowed. I'm even considering swapping the disks over just to see if there's any difference - the pads only have about 6K on them.

Just an update to this. I took the discs off this morning and gave the bobbins a good clean up with brake cleaner. Moved them up/down and rotated them in the disc. Put them back on and hey preston there's no more rotational movement. I presume having rotated the bobbins the worn parts have been replaced with an unworn part so no play for the moment. I'll have to keep an eye on them but glad at least for the moment not to need to replace the discs. I've got 4.37mm on one and 4.41mm on the other so they're no more than 1/4 used.
