I'm not planning on another bike -oh wait, scratch that - I'd love a new bike but the hands that guide me have said no:eek

My latest service quote for my 2008, 22,000 mile bike is £388. This includes an MoT, nonetheless it's making we question continuing to pay for servicing.

I'm [ I believe] quite capable of servicing the bike myself having worked around Land Rovers for many years, so interested in the forums thoughts on self service?

The bike hardly gets used these days, used to to to Europe one a year but now it'll be used as a town runner and the occasional weekend trip.

Thanks all.

I've done my own servicing on my '08 GSA since it was out of warranty. I quite like tinkering with my bikes and not afraid of wielding a spanner so for me it was a no brainer. You learn about your bike and pick up on things earlier than you might otherwise if it was someone elses eyes having a look. I did invest in a few extra tools, the BMW Reprom manual and a GS911 but have recovered those costs many times over now. Its a great thing to do on a rainy afternoon and on an 08 is relatively easy to do.

Thanks Beemerman, can I ask where you purchased the manuals from?
I already have a full set of mechanical tools, the manuals would be a great asset to the Haynes.

Cheers

You're surely planning on trading it in for a new liquid-cooled GS....? :nenau

I bought mine from a dealer for £50 although I'm sure there's ways and means of getting a cheaper copy from somewhere. It comes on a DVD.
