2008 KTM 690 Adventure: Any pictures or links available?

It does look good.......the pipes are the same style as on the first Adventures. The design allows for the extra rear tanks............which this bike has - oh yes! Looking carefully at the bike it does look like something out of the factory rather than a 'special' - I strongly suspect that we are indeed looking at what is to come.

The spec of the bike makes sense.............give us what we keep asking for!

A bike straight out of the rally scene (at least in looks!) The Huge fuel tanks, the pipes, the shapes, back to a single front brake.

Certainly looking at the fit of the plastics, the visible plumbing it really does look like the real thing.

Single front disc?:nenau
And why would it be on a Timpo spec trailer and not some fancy R&D support type trucky.
Dioes look the bog's dollocks though.:thumb

T.

Timpo, the enduro bike looks very similar and I seem to recall all the single cylinder Adventures having a single disc. Have a look at the KTM website in Austria...

From posts/pics I've seen on ADVRider I think that this bike is the 690 Rallye bike which has a bunch more stuff than you would find on the Adventure - not least, the extra rear fuel tanks... and somewhat of a price difference!

I have agree this does look like the special order £14,000 690 Rally. There is also very little frame for a pannier frame and what's the use of an adventure if you can't carry luggage:blast Stan Watt's bike on ebay is a 690 Rally. They're the same bike

The 690 Adv doesn't come with rear fuel tanks. According to a KTM rep they cost extra (this came from Adv rider, reliability is anyone's guess).

Going back one step, has anyone seen or ridden the 690 enduro as yet?

I have only seen 690 sms, no enduro. At the moment I would be happy just to get a look at the enduro.

Local dealer to me reckons the 690 Adventure is definitely happening, will be an 09 model, should be on launched at the shows end of 08?

Timpo....Orange?

Thought you were a confirmed rice burner dude Timpo. Does this mean you won't be slagging off the Austrian master racers any more?(Gwanyaboyah)

Oh dear, I'll pretend I haven't seen them.........:blast

Timpo.

Just as a matter of interest, I was at a KTM Roadshow a couple of weeks ago and asked one of the KTM UK guys about the 690 Adventure. His reply "Don't hold your breath!" When I pressed him he said maybe in 2010 but it wasn't a priority model:tears.

Good find!

Data matches the same as ktm.com. It's legit. :thumb2

No Adie long gone :(.

Going back to the subject KTM made a 700 Adventure back in 2002-3.

This hidden page describes the 2009 line-up:

But no Adv. Here's the 690 Enduro description...

For anyone looking for the ultimate all-rounder, the 690 Enduro is the right choice. It masters trails reserved otherwise only for EXC bikes, and is equally suitable for a trip to Morocco, travelling there by motorway. And all of this with a passenger and luggage if desired!

I think someone is taking the p*ss. :D

But no Adv.

Its only the offroad models there mate ... there is no 990 adv in the "2009" models section down the bottom either for example.

As for the models listed up above, its just a link to the current model pages (i.e. 2008 models) So nothing either good or bad on that website re the 690 / 700 adv. ...

BUT the fact that there is a website reserved is a very promising thing in my book.

There's so much interest in the 690 (or 700) adv, I really can't see why it's not out there yet. Unless they're really going to town on it. BMW now have an 800 and I reckon KTM are thinking along the lines of producing a competitor for this. the 990 will be upgraded to an 1190, so it's natural that the smaller adv will sit alongside the 800. Is it at all possible the KTM will be a twin? It makes no sense for KTM to delay the launch of a smaller adv (BMW have a clear field with the 800 and to a degree, the 650) unless there's something big in the pipeline.

or none of the above.

The thing with the BMW 800 GS is its a big bike. Same size as a 1200 (quite a few inches longer actually) and just as high. Stick a bashplate, handguards and a centre stand on it and its 190kgs ... only 10kgs lighter than a 1200.

I am now looking to get an adventure style bike to go with my 1200GSA ... not replace it. So the F800 to me is too much of a direct replacement. I need something a lot smaller and lighter. The interest therefore in the 690/700 KTM comes from the fact that physically it should be a lot more compact and lighter (the 640 was what 158 kgs?) had good fuel tank and suspension ... biggest drama with the old bike was the engine vibrated more than anything made in the last 80 years and was tuned for sport riding not long distance touring.

The 690 engine is fuel injected (necessary these days for emissions regs) and has cut the vibes by 80+% ... so as much as I like the smoothness of V-twins, developing a whole new engine seems a bit over the top when the 690 will do all that is needed. And they just developed that!. A V-twin will add another 10kgs or more to the bike and kill one of the big advantages they have over BMW.

Suzuki has also just pulled the DR-Z400 S and E models ... with no replacement

A good point about the weight. A 690/700 is the best way to go if lightness is a priority. But then why the silence, what's going on? KTM have been fairly good at bringing bikes people want to the market. But they've pulled the 640adv and haven't made any official announcement of a replacement. Very odd. They've left what is a growing sector open to BMW and Yamaha, without even giving a hint of a new bike to keep potential buyers interested.

If anyone from KTM reads this, what is going on?
