Has anyone any further info on the rumoured 110hp (R1200RT/ST tune) engine?

As much as I love my K1200S, an R1200GS would be better for the backroads of the Dales and stop me riding at 170+ everytime I hit the local bypass :eek I just find the current engine a little slow...

The fact the warranty runs out in April is also a major factor as it's already had a gear position indicator switch, brake servo and brake discs replaced in 12K miles and it's having the ball joints replaced in the Duolever front end replaced next week :(

The salesman in my local dealer was certain the 2008 model would be 110bhp but was cagey about any other changes. I would have thought it would be more an update than a new model.

170+

Dont intend to offend but anyone doing 170 on public roads is a total twat in my book. I must admit I do laugh too when I hear that "my bikes not got enough power". Didnt realise there were so many talanted riders out there.

My 2pc for what its worth :D

Get off ya high horse mate .. if the guy wants to 'make fast efficient progress' on the queens highway surely that's up to him.
Though i'll admit if you make the comment I guess you're inviting the reply!!

As for more power .. there are plenty of threads on here, covering most models, that discuss the benefits of more improved rideability etc when changing exhausts, removing cats and the rest.

Sorry .. just adding my 2pc fwiw. :augie

:D

Made me laugh :D The GS will do 110mph all day easily if you want it to, and still have another 20mph left in reserve. in fact, I suppose I'm a bit of a twat too :o I bought a BM to slow me down, which it has actually, though you wouldn't know

Plenty of mods you can do to get it faster, it's the age old proverb "speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?" I can't see having 110bhp on the GS being much different to the current model really if you're used to 150-odd BHP, just stick a whopping great turbo on it, or speak to laughing gas on here about nitrous if you're really keen

P.S. Get a red one, they're faster.

I must be a tw*t then :P Anyone can go fast in a straight line - no talent is required ;)

I love the R1200GS as I spend most of my time in the backroads of the Dales, but know from riding the R1200ST and R1200S that I'd like a bit more power, especially when touring fully loaded two-up. My normal cruising speeds on the openroad are no different to a lot of GS riders I see and slower than some...

IMHO the R1200S is the perfect road engine as you still get a rush from 6500-8000K, but it still has a decent amount of torque below that. Pity about the pillion seat and Marquis de Sade riding position :(

Why more maximum power ? It isn't a GSX-R !

More torque inbetween 3000 and 5000 rpm.... yes ! Not more max power.

Ever been there ? No, thought not. :thedummy If you ever do get the chance (in the approprate place), give it a go. You might find it gives you a rush and make you realise that life is for living, not tut tutting at others who do have the balls (and as Steve says, it's easy in a straight line). No offence. :handbag

On the power front I was told (reliable source) it's an update with perhaps 5-6 extra bhp.

Glad I bought an '07 (picking her up next week) in 'white aluminium metallic' - veery low key ... the new red option is a bit too red for my liking. I bet the other one's blue!

seeing your all giving your 2pc worth here goes. i cannot understand why so many of us,myself included , who as a background of high powerd jap bikes R1 etc 150+ bhp who then sees sence and realises he will either loose there licence or worse kill themselves, finally goes out and buys there R1200GS only to spend hours thinking of ways to up the bhp, racing cans, engine mods etc . surely you must all agree the type of experience a BM gives you is 100% different to a high powerd sports bike. I now actually feel sorry for sport bike riders when they come flying past at 100mph , they are missing out on so much, so if you still feel the need to "improve" your BM you may have left the sport bike scene to early .

remember . the poorest man is he that as nothing but money

Way off beam mate, it doesn't take talent to do those sort of speeds on a public road, anyone can go fast in a straight line. Not saying I condone it, just making an observation.
