Hello all and hopefully someone can help.

I've an 09 Adventure I bought in 2012 from a BMW dealer and have had the screen on and off a few times. I have removed it at the moment and one of the bolts needs replacing so I looked on Maxbmw and got a surprise.

The 4 bolts on the fiche appear to go through a steel top hat which in turn go through a rubber grommet fitted to the screen. Mines never had this set up from when I purchased it. I just have the bolts going through plastic top hats, always thought it was odd as had to be careful doing them up so as not to crack the screen. The same steel top hats and grommets are shown on the wind deflectors but again all I've ever had is a plastic top hat.

Was my set up ever the norm from BMW, or did someone just use the wrong bits before I got it?

Head over to realoem.com and grab a screenshot for your bike

and then check if that's what you have

A picture is worth a thousand words .

I don't have what that shows hence the confusion. I'm just wondering if the diagram was always should've been or if BMW updated it at some point. Just seems odd that I have only plastic top hats in screen and deflectors!!

Think I'm just going to order the bits from the microfiche. If that's how BMW show it that's how it should be. Thanks all 👍

Right, I'll see if I can do a picture. Can't get to the screen as it's buried at the mo, however can get to the deflector. Mine has a plastic top hat pushed up from the bottom, through this goes the bolt which has a plastic washer on it, not like the fiche which shows a grommet in the deflector, a steel top hat with a plastic washer then the bolt against the plastic. Screen is the same except the bolt goes through the other way. There is no grommet, just the top hat fitting.

they always used rubber mounting on the screen small bolts - some thug has messed with it

BMW dealer can get each part separately - and they also did a kit once upon a time....

only the two large side bolts physically grab the screen - and the whole assembly part 17 is then rubber mounted to the chassis
the small bolts metal "flange sleeve" part 14 and the bolts tighten tight metal to metal, and the screen wobbles happily on the rubber grommets part 15
the later big winged adjustment knobs are much better - as you can do them up so they don't unscrew like the early things always did

I've ordered the rubber grommets and steel top hats for the screen and winglets so all should be good soon. Not looking forward to fitting the nuts on the end of the adjusting knobs.

on the early GSA wiglets they didn't rubber mount and would crack - you can buy the better fittings and just drill out the hole on the winglet for the grommet to fit - note they got it wrong and you clamp the "flange sleeve" against the plastic body work - which will mangle it or fit the "flange sleeve" up the other way and scratch the body work and look silly - or add another thin washer on to the bodywork, with the curved pressed side downward

MWH, the earlier model had plastic top hat bushes, part number 46 63 7 670 459.
They changed to bigger grommets with steel top hats.

Cheers Kenny. So i wasn't going mad, it was how they were!! I've ordered the "newer" bits so will modify things to fit with them 👍
