Hi all,

Today i noticed that the rear shock on my GSA is seeping oil. Naturally on seeing this i panicked thinking my rear suspension is going to fail at any moment. Now i`ve calmed down im looking at a way to repair or replace that isnt going to need a second mortgage on the house.
Couple of questions really
1) would it be safe to ride
2) Can ESA units be repaired if so any suggestions for a company
3) If not repairable what is the best option for after market replacements

Many thanks for your help

MCT suspension, offer a rebuild service.
They do a fast turnaround and I have had a number of shocks rebuilt by them.:thumby:
In fact got a mates 2008 GSA esa rear shock being done by them at the moment.

The shock can be refurbished, the ESA unit is separate and I believe is not repairable. Not heard of many problems with them though, oil leaks are almost always the shock.

Been there, done that (around 33,000 miles), rebuilt by MCT. Piston rod seal was leaking.

Best to get both ends done, my front shock also had a failed internal bush and was close to collapse. Again repaired by MCT.

There is a correct setting required for the damping and preload. One helmet and comfort I believe but do check.
Wilbers require regular service intervals to maintain the warranty (15K miles IIRC) yet we expect the lower grade OEM shocks to go on for ever.
BMW missed a trick installing (so called) non serviceable suspension.

The front shock takes quite a while to remove. Best to ask MCT if they can do a ride in ride out service.
