Great i really appreciate this.
i'll speak with a couple of the others re which tyres they want, but they'll go with my decision anyway...

We'll be able to service the bikes ourselves, it's really a matter of getting oils and anything else we've run out of or if there's a problem with a bike we can't sort etc. and somewhere to carry out the work.

Istanbul will be well over 15k miles (out of europe) into the trip so it's difficult to forsee what we'll need

I've asked L to pop in here to help out with contacting the mechanic. He should be able to prime him for your arrival and make sure the tyres are on stand by. The guy works mainly on BMW's so he sure to have any fluids you need.

I once advised a guy at ADVrider. He was happy there. In the citycentre, very close to sights worth seeing. We can book your rooms in advance.

I've just contacted one other member of our group and our preferred tyres are Continental TKC80...four pairs, if they become in stock again, if you're unable to get that brand then we'll have whatever you can provide.

Good point, when do you expect to be in Istanbul? I thinking we'll be crossing the border from Iran on the 1st or 2nd of August. If you're heading into Turkey from Georgia around the same time we should be able to bump into each other.

I was going to check in with Bora Eris, who's a member of this forum (Bo Ra Bo Ra, http://www.ukgser.com/forums/member.php?u=1019391) as I got my TKCs from him. He's based in Bandirma but will ship to any address in Istanbul. I thought he could send them to a BMW mechanic called Olkan, who is based in Istinye and seems to be a pretty good spanner man for if they need anything else done while there.

Just bare in mind that BMW in İstinye is not open on Sundays and a booking might be needed for a Saturday try out.

We hope to enter Turkey from Georgia during the last couple of days in July.
Once there, the pressure's off for timing other than one of our group has to be back in work by a particular date give or take a couple of days.
So hopefully we can enjoy a leisurely pace along the Black Sea coast to Bandirma and Istanbul or meet at the TK/G border this means it's difficult to give an exact date for meeting up at the Turkey/Greece border but if you know when you're intending to be there we could aim for that perhaps.

From Bandırma to Tekirdağ, there is a ferry across the Marmara Sea, which would shorten your route to the border.
As for my trip, I have told you before, hoping to start in mid-July and I will give it a go for a week + a few days more. It depends on the activities, weather, route and so on...
Hopefully,we'll get and keep in touch somewhere.
