I read in another post somewhere about the side panels coming off and although this has not happened to me I do find the buggers a bit dificult to fit, I also read that some one does a kit to convert the fixings which no doubt costs a few quid.
Well here is my solution to the problem for less than a quid.
The original BMW fitting
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/Boxadog/GSSidePanels/photo?authkey=gB4I5NEbYPw#5099710950503032626"><img src="http://lh4.google.co.uk/Boxadog/RsXQFw3nJzI/AAAAAAAAACU/-rJaJB4FwG4/s400/DSC01249.JPG" /></a>
You will need two M6x16mm stainless steel hex head bolts and two M6 wing nuts and two stainless steel penny washers
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/Boxadog/GSSidePanels/photo?authkey=gB4I5NEbYPw#5099710971977869122"><img src="http://lh5.google.co.uk/Boxadog/RsXQHA3nJ0I/AAAAAAAAACc/H4ekf1k5h2c/s400/DSC01251.JPG" /></a>
Take a bolt and file the opposite edges of the hex head off this shot is the before and after
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/Boxadog/GSSidePanels/photo?authkey=gB4I5NEbYPw#5099710993452705618"><img src="http://lh6.google.co.uk/Boxadog/RsXQIQ3nJ1I/AAAAAAAAACk/XaOZ9DCURUQ/s400/DSC01256.JPG" /></a>
Then with a pair of long nose pliers put the bolt into the fitting of the side panel from the reverse direction
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/Boxadog/GSSidePanels/photo?authkey=gB4I5NEbYPw#5099711014927542114"><img src="http://lh3.google.co.uk/Boxadog/RsXQJg3nJ2I/AAAAAAAAACs/8xT6w9g_W_g/s400/DSC01266.JPG" /></a>
You may need to tighten the wing nut up to pull it fully into place
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/Boxadog/GSSidePanels/photo?authkey=gB4I5NEbYPw#5099711062172182402"><img src="http://lh6.google.co.uk/Boxadog/RsXQMQ3nJ4I/AAAAAAAAAC8/x0P2X4IIioQ/s400/DSC01270.JPG" /></a>
Now you are ready to re-fit the side panel, put one rubber washer directly onto the bolt
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/Boxadog/GSSidePanels/photo?authkey=gB4I5NEbYPw#5099711087941986194"><img src="http://lh4.google.co.uk/Boxadog/RsXQNw3nJ5I/AAAAAAAAADE/ZzTImqVMMG0/s400/DSC01271.JPG" /></a>
This is the finished and fitted item safe secure and cheap I dont really like the wing nut and will probably replace it with a small M6 plastic threaded knob
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/Boxadog/GSSidePanels/photo?authkey=gB4I5NEbYPw#5099710211768657698"><img src="http://lh4.google.co.uk/Boxadog/RsXPaw3nJyI/AAAAAAAAABw/R2t1O3osmUQ/s400/DSC01246.JPG" /></a>
All of the bits you require can be bought from most good nut & bolt shops or even B&Q I think.
