What is the function of this package compared to the Garmin for example?

Does the included GPS locator function as a standalone GPS with autoroute downloaded onto it?

Will the new 2010 Garmin routing software work with the old 2610 that I still have?

Therefore, upload whatever routes I plan with autoroute onto the 2610?

If this is the Microsoft product you're talking about then you'll need to take your laptop on the road. The GPS part is just a GPS reciever that you use in conjunction with the software on your PC. Not really a viable GPS solution unless you drive a truck or Winnebago
