2010 E. Glide tank removal

[Rugged Path]

I want to run some wiring under the tank instead of over it inside the metal strip.
Any tips to removing the quick fuel connect and re-attaching?
Some forum users have had the O'ring damaged when working on it.
Using the manual makes it look a doddle to do.
Had breaks previously with the plastic BMW quick disconnects.

Can I suggest you just take it somewhere and pay someone who knows what they're doing?

More reconnecting. Disconnected already. I have read many damage the o'ring when re-connecting.
