Never been impressed with the accruacy of the fuel guage, but it is now off with the fairies

the low level fuel warning light remains on , fuel range varies between 19 and 65 miles with one bar reading even with a full tank of fuel

any clues or tips what to look for, or is purely a job for the dealer, if so it will have to wait for the next service

Today i rode to scarborough and back for the road racing and got 220miles to a tank from 20 litres to there and on the return only managed 190miles having run on 'empty' for 20 miles. it somewhat throws me how my fuel gauge can give such readings. upon filling up with £10 or 7 litres of fuel the gauge decided that i had put 3/4 of a tank in from empty.

doesnt hold water with me that one.

im starting to think that the 'quality' of the petrol from the pumps somewhat varies and perhaps affects the consumption?

all in all 440miles round trip and the bike didnt miss a beat:aidan

I filled up at Sainsburys Ashford before the Chunnel the other week, checked mpg and was horrified to see 40 mpg.... Inferior petrol or what, my buddy got the same readings. We fueled up in France and mpg went back up to 50+.

Well at least the 2010 bike has gone back to a float arrangement rather than the incredibly unreliable electronic strip .... (So I understand..). :)

The first 2010 GS's are the electronic strip my 2010 has already been replaced at the Dealers, subsequent ones are a float arrangement.

Best regards Stretch :)

David, I am going to assume you have the fuel strip as the symptoms are for that so its a dealer job. Even if it isnt its still a dealer job as your under warranty and its their job to fix this stuff for free. Had my second strip calibrated yesterday during service and recall work. Seems better but time will tell. There is a rumour that they are doing a conversion from strip to float but its unlikely to be a recall for the cost.

I read on an earlier post that there may be a modification coming soon ... the question of course is will the two units be exchangeable??

My latest love ? left me stranded out of fuel with 52 miles on the range and no low level warning light. NOT IMPRESSED! Serious problems, if I was out alone I would have had a long walk!!! Jap bikes don't have these problems. put £20 in went to 230 range and dropped to 150 after about 15 miles and then settled down.. After another 80 miles went onto low level warning so thought it was ok. put £20 in again and range has gone up to 250 again. Called dealer and very apologetic and will be taking it in after I have been to Scotland on it this Thursday coming for a long weekend. Will keep you posted.

Just had the fuel sensor on my bike changed today under warranty so all is now good :clap I mentioned the new float arrangement to the guys at Bahnstormer today and they didn't seem to think this was happening. As far as they're aware, the electronic sensor strip is here to stay.......well, for the forseeable future.

Had my fuel tank guage recalibrated at first service 150 miles ago because the fuel guage had stopped functioning entirely at about 250 miles. Seemed to work well after service and repair.

Then filled up today at about 650 miles. The fuel level increased to full, but the fuel range indicator still read that I had 80 miles left. Beginning to wonder about quality control now.

Bit disappointed really. Seems like fuel guages are fine sometimes, if you have no problems. However, if it starts to play up, the problem is likely to recur. And the dealer fix is a bit hit and miss.

Cheers

Garold
