Have a look at the top of your instruments and see if the surround is being melted by the sun. My bike is only 5 weeks old, it's seldom been out in the sun, but it's being melted by the Adventure screen magnifying the sun rays. Happened when I put the Adventure screen on my previous 09 GS. BMW replaced it with a tinted screen.

We have seen 3 here in SA already! On the left side of the clocks, seems to be a "bubble" appearing as it get's fried! :comfort

Total clock replacement suggested and a piece of reflective film applied to the ADV screen........... seems it's time for the "southern" countries to show BMW how to retify their amazing design :ronno

known issue?

and did they replace this under warranty?
and if the screen causes this, will it not happen again?

vic:augie

Mine melted on my 08GSA but BMW turned down a warranty replacement . It was replaced at no charge by Vines SLM as a customer goodwill gesture .

goodwill heueh?

dealers in the netherlands have never heard of this melting issue :rob
#%!! bastards! :reaper:mcgun:mcgun:mcgun

This is what mine looked like after 12 months . When Vines replaced the surround 12 months later it had 3 times as many melt marks . My earlier 1200GSA's never suffered from this so I suppose BMW have now invented a special chocolate based plastic from which to make them ! :augie

2010 GSA Instrument Surround is Melting

Hope BM is working on this one. And something other than a Warning Decal that goes on the instrument panel and says: As soon as you stop riding immediately place your jacket to completely block the sun from shining through your screen. :D

Has anyone had any more melting speedo surround problems. Noticed mine has gone similar to the pictures when back from a run in the sun yesterday. Thought it was poss a bulb overheating till I did a search.. Any solutions?
Bike is a 09 standard GS but has the bigger Adv screen fitted.
Thanks

My dial sourround melted in 2011 on my 2007 GSA. But it also melted the black center of the dial. No warranty no good will. I live with it.

written on the not so smart phone, so please excuse typo

Errr

Glad to say not suffering with anything like that here in Scotland, oh no, no feckin chance of that here.

Mine melted years ago, compared with the corrosion on the front front of the engine its fack all to worry about. :blast

:eek

Thank heavens there is a dual purpose for having furry dice hanging in the screen. Anti-glare from the headlight cover, plus anti-melt for the instrument cluster.

Added bonus of being ultra-fashionable also..

Apart from all the jokes, is it the GS or GSA that's prone to melted instruments?

How can this happen? Presumably its a lens effect from the screen, After all, its not a car where heat gets trapped on a sunny day.
