After a slight mis-calculation of depth of swamp at the hog raost, i was in need of a plug spannor. anyone know where i can get one short notice. bmw dont stock them...

Go to Halfords go to any motorists store and get a 16mm plug socket. How difficult can it be?

Think you'll find if its a DOHC version then you'll need a double depth 14mm one

It is a special thin wall socket, and no the tool kit doesnt have one. The socket is also double depth as it is a twin spark. Ive ordered one now, as there is no stock i can find in the uk. Germany has some....

Anybody tried a box spanner, or is that still too tight?
It maybe too late, but I found this on 14mm socket on e-bay.

To Sleepy : NO the standard toolkit doesn't have one, I had Japanese bikes in the 70's where the standard toolkit was better than the one in my 2011 model 1200 GSA, after my 1150's fairly comprehensive standard toolkit it is pathetic.
BMW obviously believe that it will be so reliable it doesn't need a plug spanner, tubeless repair kit or even a method to remove the rear wheel bolts.

If it is the same as the normal 1200GS Halfords do stock one that fits.
It is in the "locked" tool cabinet and I think made by Laser. Thin walled and the correct socket size.
I tried a few before this one and the wall size is too big.

They don't want you playing around with things you could check / change yourself ...God forbid...You should be going cap in hand to the dealer network, bow to them & on one knee ask politely if they wouldn't mind removing them for you... And after parting with a large amount of foldable, you will be feel honoured to have allowed them to touch your pride & joy

Yep that would be £160 for the 600 mile service that used to be free and would cost me about £60 in parts and 3/4 hour of my valuable time.
