dyno test in the April BIKE mag shows less power for 2010 compared to 2009 bike.

Bit of a 'GS' issue with several road tests, history and ride report.

You will be pleased to hear that Simon Pavey gives the new bike his thumbs up:augie

Who actually cares? If you want a 'powerful' bike go and buy a zzr1400 or something.

The 1150 was powerful enough for gods sake! Any more is just willy waving.

I think that Bike tested it with 95RON petrol - BMW's specification and handbook says that full 110bhp is with 98RON - the knock sensors probably retard the ignition when running 95RON as knocking is first detected. The engine comes from the HP2 and this requires 98RON for full power.

Can't imagine a 2010 bike being as "loose" as a 2009 either...... I reckon my '04 is up to about 120bhp now.....

:augie

:D

It really wasn't. 100bhp is about perfect tho.

Mike Hailwood won the TT with 80 bhp, so you must be waaaaaayyy better than that:augie

Have you ever tried wringing the neck of a 50 bhp Manx Norton? Nope, thought not.

BHP numbers are for engine builders and feck all to do with real life

Sorry, I forgot I'm not the great MH or indeed the legend that is Vern so cannot have an opinion.

For me, and plenty of others, the 100bhp of the 1200 is better than the 85bhp of the 1150. Get over it.

He didn't have panniers, top box or a Gore-tex riding ensemble... and I could flay the arse out of an alledgedly 50bhp KLX650 on the road.

100bhp or thereabouts is acceptable.

:beerjug:

Is funny how its always the 1150 owners that say they have more than enough power and their bike is totally reliable! Probably because it doesn't have enough power to break anything. Then the older 1200 owners say 100 is perfect well being an 09 owner your all wrong and 105 is as good as it could possibly get. 110 is just completely stupid and a total waste of time why would you ever need the extra 5BHP. That's of course until someday when I might own a 2010 when it will be completely acceptable and the brand new 2012 water cooled turbo charged 115bhp GS is out and that will be far too much for anybody to possibly use. I am sure there will be an airhead owner along soon to say theirs was the optimum and we all have wee tadgers and they are the real men.

Real life and tractability not tractorbility)

What are the comparable torque figures (1150, 1200 mk1 and mk2)? :nenau

FWIW once you are faster away from the lights than the cages and have enough power to cruise at 90 two up and fully loaded I'm happy these days. Especially if I intended to ever take the same bike off road. :rob

100+ bhp with dual sport tyres off road is asking for trouble with me in charge

My fastest ,maddest bike days were on a GPz 750 . . . 86bhp at the crank & shit handling!:thumb2

I would have thought Torque is more important (on our type of bikes) than BHP..

100BHP 250 anyone?

I've had a load of sports 600s which were all around the 100bhp mark too, obviously less torque than a GS. The 1150 had more torque but is the only bike I have owned that left me wanting (a bit) more. 100bhp works for me regardless of torque it seems....

If you want to go fast you need power, there is no alternative - burn lots of fuel rapidly, its the only way. Physics innit :D

like my gs/a just fine as it is

Never ridden an 1100 or an 1150 but i think my 09 gs/a is fucking ace , i well remember razzing about on 900f's and z1000's that were 50+lb heavier and didn't manage a 100 bhp and thinking jeez they were fast , have done the superbike thing with zx10 and zzr1100 and think that they are just to much to really use on the road , i reckon after going through in excess of 60 bikes in my time(only killed a few of em!) that i've finally found the right mix , 130 ish max , upto 100mph cruise two up and loaded , 50mpg if you try , 300+mile range , great riding position , view and comfort are superb.....just love it....the best real world bike bar none
