Hi. Can any one help with some advice regarding servicing of a 2011 R1200GS. I bought the bike with 6500 miles on the clock and I am not sure when to get it serviced to keep the warranty valid. The previous owner had the bike serviced at 600 miles as per BMW schedule. The next service was an annual service at 3500 miles. This seemed to involve oil and filter change as well as gearbox oil change. Labour was £110 so I assume valve clearances were checked, but this was not stated on the invoice. The owners manual is stamped up and it says the next service is now due 1 year after the 3500 mile service (annual service) or at 9500 miles. The question I have is should I book the bike in for a 6000 mile service or is 6000 miles just the interval between services. If I don't get it serviced again until 9500 miles will the warranty still be valid. Just to be on the safe side I was going to change the engine oil (or is this not necessary). Finally, any rough idea about how much a 6000 mile service should cost. Thanks for any advice.

Then a year later at 5425 miles(6000 Miles Service);
Engine & Oil Filter change
Checking Valve Clearances (DOHC R1200 CVR Gasket £37.93)
correcting Engine Synchronization
Gearbox Oil Change
Changing Brake Fluid Front & Rear
£362.05.
This Year as i hav'nt had chance to do much!
I had a Annual Service done, Mileage 8075
Engine Oil & Filter change
Rear Wheel Drive Oil change
£171.67
my next Service will be either in 4000 miles(12000 service) or 12 months,
depending on my bike use in the future.
I hope that helps you decide what to do next, you can save money by using an independent Mechanic, as long as the use BMW Parts!

My understanding is that if you do 6k miles or less a year, the 6k service is a combined 6k and annual. If you do more than 6k miles a year, say 10k miles. You should get it done at 6k miles and also at the 1 yr anniversary. Seems like a big con to me but.....

Davey B is correct Its every 6000 miles AND an annual service. Most places will do a joint one if mileages are close.
So if you bought the bike on say Jan1st and had the 6000 mile service done in November. If you only did another 100 miles by Jan 1st you would still technically need an annual service. Not good but true I'm afraid.You would get them to do a joint service (a bit more expensive obviously) in the November.

After 20 minutes on the phone with a dealer my conclusion is that the annual service is pointless unless you do very little mileage or your bike is under warranty, up to 2 yrs since new or extended.
According to BMW I would need the 12k service in August and then I would need to go back in October (after very little mileage) for the annual. I will just stick to a service every 6k and make sure the annual / bi-annual triggers are fulfilled at the main service (mainly brake fluid, gearbox oil, and rear drive oil). You can ask a dealer for a service schedule so you know what is recommended from BMW every 12 or 24 months.
I am sure my GSA won't be offended

Unless I have miss understood your post, are you saying to keep the warranty up and running you will need another service and oil change after 100 miles?
In the scenario you have given, your next service will be 6k from November or 12 months from November
Surely, nobody in their right minds would do otherwise.

Effectively yes, well thats what they told me. Obviously no one would be that thick. But you could easily have had your bike serviced at 6000 lets say after 7 months then only done a few thousand more before the end of the year.You must then have the yearly service That's how it was explained to me.That was by Riders and confirmed by Cardiff Mottorad

That is not how i understand it Nico/Johno23, nor how the service book has been stamped for my GSA.
Its 6,000 mile service intervals, or an annual service. So you either do the 6,000 miles and need a service, or you require an annual service 1 year from the date of your previous service, to keep the servicing up to date. They will then stamp it and say you require a service if oyu do 6,000 miles or a Year from the date your bike was serviced on.
