2011 R1200GSA struggling to accelerate at high rpm problem!!

It's only had one owner and he said he didnt have any issues when he owned it.
Maybe that's the Issue right there?
One Owner from new who's covered 17000 miles, perhaps without ever having taken the Revs anywhere near to 6k.
He wouldn't know there was an Issue if he bimbled around at 60mph everywhere, right from Day One.
Engines like to be Worked Out a little afterall.

Late to the party but had similar issues part way through a trip around Scotland. While we were at a coffee stop, and totally by chance, I checked the secondary coils and noticed that one of the plugs from the loom looked "loose". Its a very small plug with very small spade type connectors and one of them had become "sloppy". I tightened up the spade connector and plugged it back in, more in hope than anything else - and all was well.

It will cost nothing and is easy to check.

Thanks for that, but they been on and off and checked and still nothing.

So it's always been Sluggish in your Ownership?
The Issue surely must have come along with the Bike :nenau
I may be completely Off Target, but I've known identical Make / Model Bikes in the past that'd been Run In and Ridden in very different Styles and both returned completely different Performance thereafter.
I'm talking Harleys here, not BMW but nevertheless, the one that was "Nursed" from the Off always felt Flat and Unresponsive.
Just a thought.....

Yeah different break ins, seen that before. This is literally a signal or something to slow the bike.

!!Update!!

For anyone still interested....

I have compared my rpms at 5500 with another twin cam.

His knock sensors max out at 25v on his entire log where as mine spike to 240v.

This however doesn't throw a code?

Surely 240v is massively high?

My 06 hexhead, had almost the same problem.

It would charge like a wounded Rhino, to 80, and then it was like it had run out of steam.

But keep a gentle throttle application, and it would pull beyond 80

I put it down to being a characteristic of the bike, and learnt to live / ride with it

Have you tried a known good TPS yet, or cleaned the one you have?

Going now, bmw mechanic on facebook says cam chain

It would have shown up by now as bashed valves

I think you are on the right track with the sensors

I mean back in 2007 ~8 was when the batches of faulty "cheap" ignition antennas started rearing their ugly heads

A couple of dodgy Knock sensors would not be out of the question really

Oh and :popcorn

On the bike as we speak, seems to start and run fine. No CEL.

Seems to hold back still, possibly a little more to 4000rpm instead of 5k.

Going onto motorway now,

Have ordered some new knocks for monday delivery

Cue righteous indignation about essential journeys.

Good luck pal, I have to say you have more patience then me.

There’s always a box of swan vestas in my tool box ...

I'm army so still in work, had to go in to take over duty so took motorway home to test.

Still no CEL, no pinging either.

Bike still has same symptoms but maybe a small bit worse.

Yes took one off my brothers 6000 miles 2016 F800GS and made no diff,

Have sent this info to you via email.
Taken from logs.
Full throttle My TC 6162 RPM Knock sensors 199.91 & 165.5
Full throttle your TC 6034 RPM Knock sensors 145.17 & 181.96

Oh for the Days of, "Just a bit o Shite in the Carbs".
Back when the only things to have ABS were Body Builders!! :D

Have received your latest log and had a look at it.
Lambda sensors now working ok. and all the other data looks ok.
In your email you said max torque was at 7K. It is at 6K rpm on a TC.
I think you are probably expecting too much from this bike, Although the power ratings have been increased through the generations of these bikes but they keep upping the rev limit so they can quote a higher HP figure.( makes good advertising)
The TC seems to be going into negative engine load figures to reduce drive line load under fast throttle openings, I think it is best to gently roll on the throttle.
Injector pulse times seem a touch slow( not enough to worry about) under full throttle ( open loop) but I think these will improve when your long term fuel trims have time to get established.
Run a few tanks of fuel through it and remember it is only a GS.

just thought of that.... have you checked valve timing is correct?

Yeah the timings Mark's against a flat edge are bang on. Exhaust gaps at 37 and intakes at 15/16.

Put it back together and my flat spot at 80 seems gone, it would get to 80 and flat line. Now it accelerates fully but after 80/90 it just seems ....slow.

Got it up to 120, it might just be how the bikes are.
Will ride my brothers bike after lockdown and compare
