2011 R1200GSA struggling to accelerate at high rpm problem!!

Check the fuel pressure, it should be 4 bar / 60 psi on a twin cam.
Mine was down to 30 psi under hard acceleration and recording an afr of 18 to 1 so was struggling top end ( if I had carried on it would have been by-by valves).
The pump had done 42K miles.
The pressure regulator is mechanical and there is no sensor to let the ecu know the pressure is low.
At full throttle it is in open loop so the lambda sensors can`t try to compensate for the lean condition.

I will factor this in and now try see what i need to measure that as that sounds about right.

a glitch / holding back as you open it up in higher gears is never clutch slip, clutch slip is the exact opposite symptom... it revs out too easily (as its not driving the bike up the road).

fuel pressure is a good point,

I was surprised in earlier posts about knock sensors and people asking for values and indeed by my diagnostic kit giving me no info on the coil packs.

Does a vehicle with a ZFE high give out more diagnostic data?
Do later Twin cam bikes get more data? Even my BM dealer said their kit gets noting on coil packs failing over diagnostics on hex heads.
Yet the same ECU fitted to a K1300 does and my older Merc spit out diagnostic data on failing coil packs, even picking up the specific cylinder doing it (out of 8) and so does a 2007 Ford Focus

No Sir, this gave no readout on coils, i just pulled lowers and mains and checked the cylinder temps on gs911 to see if one wasnt firing

then around 90ish it will hold back.

if you used 5th does it still hold back? those revs are around the designed in flat spot for noise and emission regs… or are we on about a new fault when previously was OK

it holds back in 5th and 6th really, pulls fine then around 6k onwards its gets sluggish and like its going against a strong headwind. I have a rapid bike fuel module that is supp to map out that 4500 to 6k flat spot

I can't find which is which, I had written it, one is left lower, another right lower, and the two mains have the same part number. The two lowers he said are marketed as champion... and I was a bit concerned (when I searched u see nothing about champion coil packs). But exactly as he said, peel off the sticker and they are really beru …. and clearly just like the beru branded main ones. Those are the Twin Cam part numbers but they also fit the hex head... but Note: (for others) angle to the connection on the lowers is different (I chopped off a cable tie to get a nicer route for the wires) and a bit on the rubbers needed a trim.

don't discount the other ideas.... did TC bikes never get a free fuel pump? I got one 3 years ago on my late hex head under a recall

I have found a copy pump by quantum thats 60£ and has good reviews, will try a pump. Then coils :(

well just pulled panels and tank, just to check i havent pinched a fuel line or wedged a cable or acc cable block. all good, will test ride tmrw and see ad if not Steptoe can have a look.

Just need a set of guages now and will check that, will try find some tmrw

Didn't see it mentioned, but its it possible the filler cap vent is blocked? Not sure how the venting is done on the 1200, but this is something the 1150 can do if it's blocked. I head it on my ST many moons ago.

Simple test is to open the filler cap and leave it open (not wide open, just not pushed home will be enough) and try to replicate the problem scenario.... if the issue has gone, you're on the way to a fix.

Morning, slip.

Yeah first thing I tried.

No luck unfortunately

To test the fuel pressure, I use a T piece and the quick disconnect male and female fittings from motobins. And any pressure gauge that covers that range.
Note the chinese quick disconnects that look identical are 0.5mm different and wont work with the BMW one.
I think the VDO ones may be compatible.
You could remove the clips and add piping I used the q/d`s as it would be handy for future use.
I fitted a £25 pattern pump from ebay which has been good for over 20K miles, ( I now have a 30mm fuel pressure gauge permanat fix in the dash).
The fuel pressure was a little higher with the fuel pump controller by-passed. Might be worth a try.

I assume this was happening before the service? I did a complete service some years ago and had a similar problem....after much searching and cursing I decided to put the old plugs back in just to see...and cured it....duff plug. The only time I have ever come across this. Also, have you tried disconnecting the fuel plug?

Thanks I'm chasing the fuel pressure as possibility and have new pump coming

I dont think so...it stood for two years so rode it home and did all the work. As it had been stood I didnt give it beans I just nursed it home. I'll try the old plugs as they new still.

u got fresh petrol?

esso super unleaded has extras that help clear out gunk (smells quite different to other stuff)

people forget with ethanol rot in petrol (note all pumps say E5 in UK as of mid LY) it'll be lucky to do 3 months and perform correctly.
