2012 R1200GSA NON ABS final drive oil change

Just my opinion ,180ml is not enough oil in a breather type fd.
Most failures are due to pinion nose bearing wear ,this is due to oil break down or lack of oil.
Increase to 200 ml.

Mike, my bike is an '06 with the drain/filler plug on the end, would this need 180 ml or 200 ml? I'm not sure whether it's viable to suck out the oil using a Pela oil extractor?

The last time I had my FD oil swapped they over-filled it resulting in the oil blowing past the seals whilst I was away in sunny Spain. I bought a new seal and cover and did plan to do the job myself but in the end due to lack of time I took it back instead ... only for them to butcher the paint on the FD housing whilst removing the seal with probably a screwdriver :blast This time I do it myself.

The bike's just clocked 68,000 miles so I might be talking to you soon about an FD rebuild anyway!

My 08 FD needed Mike's attention at 50K miles. Now done nearly 59K and going fine with 200ml of oil. I believe the BMW original spec was 220ml but they kept reducing the volume to avoid warranty claims. I doubt BMW are fussed what happens after the warranty runs out. 180ml sorts the short term leaks and any lack of lubrication is unlikely to surface until well down the line.

My bike has a drain plug, but I use the tip back method because it spreads oil around the pivot bearings.
