Hello Guys,

I'm looking for advise for a tank bag to fit a 2012 RT.

I want one that is functional and easy to fit but also one that looks good on the bike.

I have seen pictures online of the Touratech one and the BMW one, has anybody got one of these?, or can anyone recommend a better one?

Chris...

Hello Chris,
I can't offer advice on a "better" one but the BMW bag suits me fine. As it's "purpose built", it looks right on the bike, clips on and off in an instant and is light and sort of waterproof. It's surprising just how much stuff can be packed in especially when it's expanded out to full size. Rather expensive but you will get most of your cash back when you sell it.
Incidently, I may be up your way next week depending on weather, for a couple of days at Lossiemouth.

Thanks for the reply,

I like the sound of the convenience of the BMW tank bag and the fact that its purpose made for the motorcycle.

Hopefully the weather is kind for you and you can enjoy Lossiemouth in all its glory!!!.....nice beach :D

I have a BMW one and it would be nice if it was able to secure it to the fitting on the tank with a lock to stop it for being taken as a whole in 5 seconds.

Good point Wobble, that is a concern. But I suppose the average "Toe Rag" wouldn't know that it just clips off. The big problem I have is that twice I have stopped for fuel, removed the bag, placed it on the fuel pump, filled the tank the rode away leaving the bag. First time just north of Fort William, it was still where I left it 10 minutes later when I returned. Then just last year in France I did the same stupid thing again on the D951 south of Orleans at a small village garage. We had travelled about 30 miles down the road when I realised I could see the tank top (no bag). It must have been at least 45 minutes later when I got back to find it wasn't where I had left it, then we noticed the young french lad waving from the Pay Booth. "Ahh, Monsieur, I av baggage ere". Someone had handed it in, complete with Passports etc, etc. Now my better half goes through a "before riding off" checklist. !!

Yep BUT for me the cons out way the pros....
It's not waterproof, the liner inside is....if you remember to close it..., then you have to struggle to get at anything inside with your gloves on.
Dead easy to steal (not all bikers are Saints ;-) so you have to take it everywhere and carrying it is a pain. You ether have the plastic lugs digging in to your legs or you cut and bruise other peeps while walking with it.
