2012 rt brake discs

Hi , I have not posted before but I`ve got a question about disc & pad wear that i`m hoping some of the more knowledgeable can help with .---- So , I`ve got a 2012 rt which I bought a year ago with 1500 miles on it through local bmw dealer , I just got it back from its annual service ( 4950 miles ) now and dealer has stated that OE front discs and pads are worn out & require changing . I have had several rt`s & lt`s over the years with good disc life and I`m never hard on brakes ( old fart ! ) , Had it been pads I would not have queried it . Does this seem to be about the correct wear rate for discs ? or could there be a flaw ? I asked the dealer what they could do to help but I`m not very hopeful ,bike still under warranty .

Sounds bl@@y odd to me, in all the bikies I have ridden , ( proper milages )
Ain't had front discs wearing out at that rate
Had a fair few discs warp, but not disintegrating at that kind of rate

I would measure the disc thickness myself to check they aren't taking the piss.
I sold my last pre WC RT with 19000 miles on ,still original discs.

Yeah I have Africa Twin 100k on original discs, and 1100 rt 100k OE discs slightly warped , so yeah New discs every 5k way over the top. Unless callipers ware stuck on for 5k ml, or made from tracing paper . Is there any problem when driving ? what thickness of the discs now ?

The exact wording on the " advisory " is Front brake discs below min thickness , min thickness is 4.5 mm , discs currently 4.3mm , advise replacing front discs & pads .

Buy or borrow a st of vernier gauges and check for yourself

Thanks for the help , I`l borrow a vernier gauge and measure discs . I`m also going to have a pop at the salesman tomorrow as the bike was bought from Dundee and it was serviced in the Aberdeen branch and it got an MOT 5 weeks ago and no mention made about brakes .

Large Windows In Showroom

Anyone who has ever visited a BMW dealer for a service is usually told that the car/Bike requires new disks. It is part of the company policy on income generation.
My bike had a new hub fitted as part of the recall earlier this year. "You need 3 new disks Sir".
Well, the second word in my reply was "Off", so you can guess the first.

I was told that my 2012 RT needed new front discs and pads on its 12000 mile service. Apparently it's because I ride it all year round. Soon told the man go away. Got it done on warranty.

Thanks Myke I`m beginning to think that you are right as I`ve had a good look at them and there seems to be no bloody wear at all ( but i`l measure to be sure ) I`m slowly heading towards the rant section ,

Just in the matter of interest I checked my disks and it's 4.5 thickens in centre hole , is there lip on your discs that show wear ?
Anyway if comes to replace them cheaper go aftermarket from James Sherlock or similar.

Thanks I`m going to check them in the morning , but when I looked earlier there was no lip or other obvious grooving ect on the discs and from centre to edge felt the same . Am getting a gauge to measure them .

Well it would appear that someone in an Aberdeen BMW dealership knows bugger all about brakes and discs , I measured the discs and they are virtually brand new as are the pads . I toddled to the Dundee dealers and they measured and confirmed that there is nothing wrong with the discs or pads . They apologised on behalf of the Aberdeen shower but if you use them be aware that brake tolerances may not be their strongest point .
