2013 1200 GS -'Must Have' accessories?

What is the rule? If it goes on a bike does it have to stay on a bike. I have two plates that were bought direct from DVLA, have been on bikes and are now on retention. Can they never go back on a car?

if you buy from DVLA or plate is on a car right now then it can go on anything. If you put it on a bike then it can't be transferred to a car after that, only another bike. It's archaic and daft. I had a plate I'd bought new from the DVLA that I could have used and another that was on a car that I've now used on this bike so I have four plates in total and now three are on bikes.

I'm OK with it as my plates are not massively expensive but it would be a mistake to put a high value plate on to a bike.

Must admit I prefer the BMW crash bars to the TT ones.

I had the varios on my last bike, I did like them for the same reason as you, When you unclipped them there was no unnecessary scaffolding. A few guys like the extra protection from the frame work of the metal panniers etc, I did think the varios were a bit too heavy even when empty and they weren't solid enough on the bike when giving it the beans IMO . But somebody made a bar that went between them to stiffen them up. I would have bought one but ended up trading it in for this one, Will I put the new varios on the new one ? Probably.....but not if there is no discount on them when I'm paying that much for the bike.

I got offered zilch on the varios. Two of us both bought new GS TEs and nothing offered on luggage so on principle we didn't buy anything. Given the dealer would have made well over £2k for both bikes, he lost a decent amount of business.

A deal will be had when stock is around and the initial wave has passed.

Stevie i don't know if you have noticed that the new varios on the LC have a securing point at the rear pegs. It makes them more secure and does away for the need of the fixing bar used on the old boxes.

That is rather annoying, if it originally came from DVLA new I would have expected it to be movable car to bike and bike to car. It's just as well you warned me.

Stevie i don't know if you have noticed that the new varios on the LC have a securing point at the rear pegs. It makes them more secure and does away for the need of the fixing bar used on the old boxes.

No I didn't,notice ,having not stood next to one in the flesh yet
I'm not back till next week,missed it all. The launch, the lot, All you old hands now, my delivery date was the 28 th march ,but been put back till late april............. I'm beginning to sound like a broken record........

I'd never heard that before. How ridiculous. Gotta love the DVLA

I think it's the reason few bikes have private plates compared to cars, the plate has been devalued really.

There are obvious good plates for bikes like R1, I guess G5 would work as well.

Yes fits straight in but you have to use blue tooth dongle for auto com as BMW don't wire in audio in or out, as their navigator uses wireless

Does anybody know if any garmin sat nav's will fit the factory prepared bracket on the new GS,i am thinking of buying a sat nav today for my 2012 model and hoping it will fit my next GS ie:wc next year .

I've never heard of this rule before and DVLA website makes no mention of it I can find. Are you sure????

It's an old rule, it used to be the case that plates on bikes could not be transferred to cars, but the dvla changed this some years ago and now bikes and cars can transfer plates freely.

I would argue the holder is not secure.

I may fit the barrel kind as I have on the Ducatis but even these are easily removed.

Even though its all computerised i still thought it was an offence not to display your tax disc ??

I don't see the point in displaying a tax disk either. Mine is right in front of the front wheel so will get a proper soaking. I've laminated the disk, so it may survive, but there aren't many other places to put it on the bike.

Ok, I might consider sticking mine to the underside of my seat.

Simples. Laminate the disk and keep in your wallet. Takes up no space. I also have a picture on my phone. If I have to leave the bike then it's not on display but any cover would have the same effect.

The computer shows it is taxed so I think you'd be OK.

Tax disc

I had the same problem trying to get a decent place to fix the tax disc. I have the disc and tube type and tried various places but all the obvious places looked terrible. I eventually found a P clip and fixed it on the frame under the front seat then fitted the tube type holder,this is a really neat solution but still visible.
