I took my 2013 LC in for a service yesterday, it's done 32k now. They let me use a 2016 LC with just 2500 miles on the clock.
I was a bit worried that I'd fall in love with it, realise mine felt like an old dog and I'd want to buy a new one.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover it actually felt almost identical to mine! It was a lowered seat version which didn't really suit me, the gearbox was just as clunky as mine, the left "Info" switch stuck occasionally like mine, it vibrated more than mine, probably due to different tyres. The engine sounded slightly less rattly than mine but not a great deal.

All told I'm pretty happy with my '13 that I got for £8k last year and will keep it for many more years :)

Were you really expecting a difference?
They are the same bike off the same production line.
The only thing you get with the 16 is a fresh warranty and newness.

I think it has a heavier flywheel than the 2013 model, plus a steering damper and the heated grips are warmer but not much else different to be honest. I had an original basic 2013 model and now have a 2015 TE.

Ah good point about the flywheel and dampener. I seem to recall thinking it pulled off with slightly less revs. Didn't notice the dampener. I'd like to have tried it in enduro mode off road to see how the flywheel helped but with a £1000 excess I was too scared!

my 2013 LC had a better motor than my 2015 LC, gearbox doesn't feel any different

I thought BMW put magic pixie dust in the 2015/2016 gearboxes to cure all the, uh, character present in the older ones? You, sir, have shattered my hopes and dreams about spending thousands on upgrading. I hope you're happy! :toungincheek

My 2016 gearbox is much smoother than the 2013 I had but it depends on what you call smooth lol

I have done about 7000 km on three (hire) GSs with the heavier flywheel (16 models).

Horses for courses, but I prefer the more snappy feeling from my light flywheel model.

My 2014 model has just had a new 2016 engine fitted and the gearbox is better , but I too preferred the revvier nature of the older lighter flywheeled engine
