2014 GSA LC , new ESA glitch to the bike

Interesting one today, turned on the ignition and tried to adjust the ESA from solo onto the two up settings , as per normal the twin helmet signs start to flash but unlike normal when started the bike doesn't rise and the two helmet sign turn solid ,staying firmly on its low settings
Stop the bike on the key , it is still set to solo and again change the settings to the two up ones and start the motor , again the suspension fails to rise and the two helmet signs keep flashing.
Try twice more, turning off the engine and scroll through the settings and on each occasion the both the two up and solo plus luggage settings fail to engage.
Lose patience and turn the bike off again, pull out the keys and walk away.
Five minutes later go back and go through the same sequence again, put in keys ,turn on the ignition and check the bike is on solo, so scroll through onto the two up settings, start the motor and immediately the suspension rises and the two helmet symbol stops flashing and turns solid indicating two up is engaged.
One off glitch , a common problem or is this the start of yet more ESA problems ?
 
I had a similar problem. On mine, the symbols wouldn't stop flashing, but the suspension didn't adjust an inch.

Took the bike to the dealer and after a full day of diagnostics, they didn't find anything.

It only happened twice and it worked correctly 30m after.
 
Mines already been at the dealers extensively with the ESA, all I need is more problems developing with it.

Exactly the same happened to my LC with no explanation from the dealer when the hooked the bike up to the computer.
It's probably more common than we think.

I always adjust mine with the engine running thought that was how it was done??

Mine never stopped working, but the 'semi-active' part gave up the ghost altogether...all the dealer could say was 'It's fine'

I would suspect there are others that this has happened to, but they haven't realised as it is fairly subtle.

I had a similar problem once or twice (over the course of a year) with my GSA, but cycling the ESA always got it back to where it should be. I did mention this last time it was serviced (a couple of weeks ago) and was told a large ESA software update had been applied. I've not used the bike enough to know if the update has sorted it but it's worth checking with the dealer if there is a software update due.

Steve what would I notice if mine is no longer functioning?

It interesting that you and many others have had at least one software update yet my dealer checks my vin in their computer and says no updates needed? I'm beginning to wonder if they are checking for all possible software updates or just "urgent required updates" because my GSA is one of the early ones manufactured in November 2013. My suspension is so harsh I have to leave it on soft all the time..
 
Away on the continent at the moment and the esa is being an absolute pill, left home on friday and it took 10 minutes and three stops and numerous resets before the suspension would raise to the two up settings so decided to leave it on that setting.
We got on the bike on the ferry and the display showed it is set for two up but as soon as the bike was started the suspension dropped down to its solo level and didn't rise.
Once through customs had to sit on the dock for 10 minutes getting it to raise.
The only way it will do it is if you take both people off the bike and then scroll through the menu 3 or 4 times starting the bike and then switching it off and removing the key.
It doesn't matter if the engine is running or not when you go through the process ,the symbol for the selected setting flashes for 30 seconds or so and then clears and the bike stays firmly on its lowest setting

Pretty sure it says somewhere in the destructions that you should only change settings with the bike unloaded. If you've got luggage on, or both riders, or worse still riders and luggage then the motor in the ESA isn't strong enough to make the changes.

Have you tried changing your settings with everything off the bike?

How to make suspension adjustment more complex and worse at the same time :blast

Load my GSA up - adjust the preload, twiddle the rebound a few clicks to match up & we're good for a 2 week tour....that's the beauty of Ohlins :)
 
Had a GS for a year and just coming up to 6 months on the GSA and never had any issue adjusting the suspension. Always do it unloaded with the engine on.
 
it wasn't raising with anyone on the bike and dammed sure that if you stop with the bike on the 2 up setting it should still be on that setting when you come back to it .
 
Just to add my two penn’orth……….

My 2014 bike has had this issue since it was new. Sometimes everything is fine, sometimes the preload setting you want just flashes and nothing moves. Usually, switching the ignition off, waiting a few minutes and staring again has sorted everything out, but it’s still been annoying when it happens. The bike’s been back to the dealer 5 times, and every time, I get told there’s no fault present and nothing in the fault logs, so the bike is OK. However, I have been treated to 2 software upgrades along the way – although neither got rid of the problem.

A fortnight ago, it did it again so I rode straight round to the dealer, with the "helmet and luggage" symbol flashing all the way. Finally, I was able to show then that I am not imagining it. After a consolation between the service receptionist and a technician, it was concluded that the fault is with the shock so yesterday a new shock was fitted under the extended warranty. So far, all OK.
