I've picked up on another thread that there is dissatisfaction with the inability to leave the Sat' Nav 'Locked' on the bike, I too expected to be able to use the Ignition key to lock it in place, similar to the GS.

I had intended to access the Sat' Nav/Garmin bracket and look at removing the 'plunger', this would make it difficult to remove the Sat' Nav from the bracket, but would leave an unsightly hole where the plunger comes through the dash. I wasn't happy with the thought of a rubber grommet covering the hole, nor the Sat' Nav still not 'locked' to the bike.

Thinking through the issue further:
I wonder if the RT holder could be replaced with the GS locking holder (admittedly the dash would have to be removed every time the Sat' Nav needed to be removed).
I have access to a 3D printer, a 'bung' could be made for the 'hole', but what else could the bung be used for? Ram mount?
I could make a new plastic dash, without the hole. This would be expensive, and only worthwhile if the costs were shared...is anybody else interested?

I suspect this thread will generate a few comedy moments....bring it on:)

The central locking solenoids are fairly small. It may be possible to fit one inside the dash to prevent the push button release thing from operating. So Central locking would secure the sat nav. Wouldn't leave it for long like that as it would still be fairly easy to prise out, but ok for fuel or quick pop into tescos. Can't think why they didn't include it with the CL option. Something I was locking at doing before mine was taken off me.

Yes, its a shame that BMW didn't include the satnav holder within the Central Locking system...:nenau

However, i don't really have a problem with simply stowing the nav5 in the left clove box when i park.

Just to update this thread if anyone is interested.

I fitted a central locking solenoid/actuator behind the sat nav to stop the release button from working when the central locking is on. there is just room to get it in the fairing cowl thing and it all work a treat. Total cost in parts about £60.

I fitted a GS mount to my RT

Got some longer screws and a couple of extra black plastic mounts that the GS uses.

The solenoid idea sounds nice, but I've had the GS mount on for 9 months and am quite happy with it.

Interesting, does that give you any adjustment on the angle of the nav screen?
I found the nav screen to be almost useless if the sun was behind me.
