BMW R 1200 GS.
As of model year 2014 the BMW R 1200 GS will be available with the following altered standard features and options:

The two modes "Rain" and "Road", along with ASC as standard.
New "Pro" mode with three additional riding modes "Dynamic", "Enduro" and "Enduro Pro", including harmonised ASC and ABS as an optional extra.
Dynamic ESA can now be ordered separately, independently of the riding modes.
The existing five modes are no longer available as an optional extra.
Steering damper as standard.
White-coated coil springs with the option Dynamic ESA
Altered features for the package options "Dynamic Performance", "Comfort" and "Touring".
All options can now be ordered separately except for the on-board computer Pro.

That steering damper addition should be retrofitted at no cost by BMW unless they can explain it is not necessary.

This is potentially a piss take if they don't step up to the issue.

The press release doesn't elaborate the reasons

I agree - it is either necessary and should be freely retro-fitted as a recall or its not necessary and they are just covering their @rses

Might need to start asking them to confirm which it is.

It would be wrong not to ask.......my email has gone......it is either there for rider safety or it is there for what????

Can't do as I am tackling BMW HQ UK and have an agreement I won't share persons email but if you Google Bmw Bracknell or send it to your dealer and ask them for a response from BMW.

Just out of academic curiosity you understand...what format do their direct emails take? ie SurnameFirstInitial? surname dot initial firstname dot surname etc....

Marketing reasons probably - just to allay the fears of timid buyers who pick up on the rumour mills and wet their knickers :D

All that demand for more power, more power, more power and now it (maybe) twitches:D

BMW is committed to continued improvement of their products.

White paint on springs and a freeby steering damper on future editions, they both live in the same camp. Or at least BMW can claim that they do; probably in not so many words, mind.

As usual, those that wait patiently for edition two or three to arrive do best.... who knows, they may even get their luggage, too. Those that can't sleep from excitement and eager anticipation? Well, guess what.

:jes And you all said you where not beta testers, took at the very least 2 years before changes started to arrive on the original 1200. :aidan

Do you apply this philosophy across all aspects of your life ?

I mean, if a horny chick begs you for a shag , you just pass on and wait for her sister/brother to grow up? Just in case she/he is just a bit better:nenau:blast:D

Been chatting about the steering damper. I thought that it was to be fitted to the adventure model due to the increase weight on the front wheel due to the larger tank. As the frames of both the GS and GSA are the same the damper it being fitted to all models. Well it sounds good.

That made me laugh :D

P.S. why fit a steering damper?, the bike does not need one, how many tank-slappers have been reported by LC owners on this site? A great big fat zero, that's how many!

The only instability mentioned to date was from some guy whose tyres were totally the wrong pressure because he was relying on his TPS to tell him rather than experience and the TPS was faulty.
