go to the dealers in the latter part of the year and buy one.
i personally bought a 2007 model year bike in 2006.

Why?
Because of the horrible effect it has on slow speed handling (when it has no need of it at high speed)

No it's not. Traditionally the Model Year starts after a factory shutdown where the product gets its annual updates. For our products (cars) the New MY is last week August, so the new MY 14 product will be at dealers by Sept. The MY change is traditionally the biggest change in production except for new models.
So if the new MY 14 Gs is in production wk 34 you'll have the new MY 14 bikes arriving in quarter 4.

no, it was a 2007 model year bike. it was different from the 2006 bike.
that's what bmw call it, so i'm happy to go along with that. calling it a 2006 bike doesn't really help anyone trying to differentiate models.
while it may satisfy your pedantry, you'd still be wrong.
manufacturer has a marketing strategy?
