I'm about to buy the above, but want to make the bars a lot narrower. Will bars from a different model, e.g. retro road style bike fit. I know about drilling the bars on the left as I've done it before on a previous GS, but still too wide.
Has anyone donne this before

I think as long as the diameter of the bars is the same you can physically fit them. You will need to check clearances when you turn left and right so nothing jams or pulls and that you are comfortable
