Hi guys, time has come to trade in my s1000r. Both bikes come with 2yr warranty, same price, however the 2015 has 13k miles and the 2014 has 7k miles. I can't view the bikes as they are too far away. Based on your experience which would you go for?

Mine is october 14, its the 15 model year spec , better heated grips, tweaks to spring rates,
Heavier flywheel like gsa, might be more, the earlier engine spins up quicker,
Is it a te spec on both , a good inspection for corrosion/ neglect would be adviseable,
New heated grips are easier to resolve than corrosion etc,

Where are the bikes?

If they have a 2 year warranty I am assuming they are in a BMW dealership somewhere?

If so. Then ask them to e-mail a video presentation for you :clap

Both in dealerships seen both videos, both look in good cond. The 15' is frozen blue haven't seen any on the road, the14 black which I suppose would be my preferred colour. What are the quick shifters like on the 15. I've got one on my s1000r and its pretty good use it more often than I thought I would. Same as auto cars when you've had it I would never go back to manual

My 2016 Triple Black has the GSAP which works fine as far as I'm concerned

I've never ridden an S1000R with GSAP fitted but I would imagine that the operation of it on the GS would probably not be as smooth as on your current bike !

You may prefer the 14 as it spins up more like your s1000r than the later one, if you prefer the black one; if you get the blue one you'll always be going should have gone black

If, you do a reasonable mileage then the difference will average out over a couple of years.

Go for blue, it'll be easier to find in the forest of GS's outside waitrose !

the one thats not in Scotland :hide

I thought they fitted the heavier flywheel from the GSA in the GS from 2014 onward and it was only the 13my GS that had the lighter flywheel?

Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong?
I though after August 14 or 15 model year, according to my children I'm wrong at mostly everything.

I think that I’d go for the later one subject to seeing each bike in the flesh,

When I traded my bike in the dealer let me look at both the Glasses Guide and the CAP Guide for the values. On adventure bikes the mileage makes little difference on value, it’s the age that has the most effect. Therefore I’d go for the newer model.

Frozen Blue is a horrible matt colour that does nothing for the aesthetics of the bike and to my eye makes the bike look grubby.

Easily changed though.

If you say where the bikes are located maybe a helpful tosser can pop in, have a look and give you an honest opinion. A video presentation only tells half the story and two apparently similar bikes could be in very different condition. As others have said the ‘15 will have the better heated grips, and would have come with keyless as an option (if you like that sort of thing). Ask if they’ve got a full service history for both mileage and time - annual services at the latest and often if a bike isn’t ridden much less conscientious owners skip the annual service. Any luggage wanted/supplied? Personally I’d get the later bike if condition etc are equal.

I had a 15 plate , the cams wore and I blew it up after 4500miles .. only saying as I heard there were issues with cams.

I had a 14 GSA . The gearbox was never great. My 18 year GSA is a massive improvement in all ways, if you can stretch to it get a 17 model. It's only money 😎😎

I had both a 13 and 14 year LC and both gearbox’s were bad, the 14 so much so I hated riding it and sold it.

However, a friend had an early 13 LC and his gearbox was great

I’d go for the latest model you can and buying privately should help this.

As you appear to have made the decision to buy one or the other why not test ride both back to back?

One of the advantages of buying a used bike is you can do so, avoiding the lottery of buying new and not knowing if you're getting a good one.

Yes, some are better than others.

I've changed from a 2016 bike to a 2018 and the engine is smoother and gearbox much better on the new bike.

Just my opinion, for what it's worth.

Impossible to s buy privately as I've got my s1000r as part ex......trying to sell it privately is a bloody nightmare......and at a good price! There's nothing to do to the gearbox to improve it?
