2017 GSA - rattle under acceleration

Hi folks

Loving my new GSA, but notice a bit of a rattle under acceleration coming (it seems) from the front of the engine?
Any 'obvious' things to check?

It definitely only seems to happen when in gear and accelerating.

It's booked in for it's running in service in about 4 weeks, so will bring it up then, but didn't know if there were obvious 'loose' things to check around the front of the bike or if 'they all did that'... in which case I'll stop worrying about it

but... what a machine! Love it.

Crash bars can sound horrible when the shake loose.
Mirror glass can jingle
Air intake snout can sound really strange if its not settled in properly.

After that you need a fine tooth comb and an asbergic mentality to finding rattles.

I don't think it's anything 'loose' like bars/aux-lamps etc as it definitely only happens under acceleration

It 'seems' to get better once the engine's warmed up more.

If it's 'normal' them I'm not fussed.

Try asking in the "watercooled" section. We old cavemen are used to rattly old oil heads

I had similar on my hexhead and it was the auxiliary lights, although they weren't loose, one of them had tilted down at the front and the top of the body of the light at the back was rattling off the crash bar but only under load/acceleration. It sounded like pinking/detonation for a second or two when I cracked the throttle open. I'm not familiar with the layout of the LC
but anything in close proximity to the crash bars is worth a look it doesn't need to be loose to cause a rattle. Good luck.

Good tip - I'll take a look

(it actually does sound like pinking a little, but I'm used to the sound of that form other bikes, and I'm not convinced it's that... but I have been wrong before!)

Preignition, if its happening, is not good - holed pistons, burnt valves etc. But much more likely on a hot engine.

If you suspect that, get it checked ASAP. Otherwise, fill it with posh petrol. It will run more smoothly and give enough better mpg to negate the higher cost.

I always put in the good stuff - but it's still on it's first tank full, which the dealer filled up for me

If its pinking its quite easy to replicate. My GSA runs quite well on 95 octane. Its almost impossable to get 98 here. When I was in the IOM I used it. Couldnt detect any difference. JJH

Best description I can give is...

- it sounds like someone rolling a couple of pieces of lego around in their hand.

- Always under acceleration... tends to fade out at higher RPMs

- having just been for a ride it seems to be there even when the bike is warmed up

Is that pinking/pinging ('pinging' right?... "pre-ignition")?



I've arranged to pop by Vines tomorrow and they'll have a ride/listen - I might be making something outta nothing, but better have it checked than not.

It happens on my late 14 gs , did it from new ridden a mates it does it, it may be pinking as only when accelerating,it is not as pronounced using 98, octane, hilltop re mapped still there,
they do have characteristic noises like valve train rattle when hot, The slight pinging is likely to be a result of ignition mapping,
as i service it myself ,seeing the decompressor weight loose when static and slight clearance in the cam gears puts reason to it,

Well the chaps at Vines said they can't hear anything unexpected, so I guess I'll put it down to 'learning new noises' and just enjoy it

And there are plenty of noises. Earplugs and an Akra help.

Fog light plastic isn't vibrating on the crash bar by any chance
